Comments about The North Face Apex Paradigm Jacket - Men's:
I live in Northern Maine, so a good winter jacket is important. To give you an idea, we got several inches of snow in October. I was a little wary of The North Face, as in recent years they seem more oriented to the college crowd, rather than the outdoor crowd. But I tried this jacket on, and it fit great, so I gave it a shot.
I took this jacket out for a 10 mile hike with a pretty good snowfall in 25 F temps. Underneath the jacket I only wore a tshirt. I was actually too warm with it zipped all the way up, and I didn't get wet. This bodes well for January when the temps drop to -30 F. With a fleece and the proper base layers, I should be just fine all day out in the woods.
I did a little bushwhacking through some spruce, pines, and underbrush. I had no problems with snow down my shirt, or the durability. It also fits well enough under a pack.
It doesn't look half bad, and it doesn't make alot of noise like some winter jackets.
The only thing I would change is the hood. If you cinch it tight enough to actually keep out blowing snow, you can't see a thing. Arc'teryx is the only company to really do hoods right, and I'm not paying that much for a jacket.
Still this jacket is awesome, and the hood doesn't change the 5 star rating.
