Comments about Gregory Iso Daypack - '08 Closeout:

I have had this pack for almost one year. I have used it for many day hikes, carrying things around the city, to the gym, trail running, running to the office, carryon for flights, and an ultralight overnight experiment. Just about everything.

The biggest feature is that this pack is huge. It holds more than you'd imagine. Plenty for a dayhike, not quite enough for an overnight. On separate instances it has swallowed a bear canister; three laptops; climbing rack. The outer pocket holds a down jacket. The straps can be used to hold a climbing rope across the top. Its comfortable up to 20lb and tolerable to 30lb.

The elastic loops are good for poles, but not for mountaineering axes - the ax tends to cut through. The biggest downside is that there is no nice way to attach the top of the poles. The straps will work, but are only so-so and the poles fall out whenever you have to access any pocket.

The fabric is awesome. My ax put a hole in the bottom and it hasn't expanded in many months of hard use. As an added plus, it makes the pack extra light.

The bottom cinch mechanism along with the straps allow the bag to get really flat so it can hug the body nicely for trail running.

There is a hole in the back for easy filling of a water bladder. Its not that useful,, since the contents of the pack tend to compress the bladder so that it is hard to fill in situ. I end up pulling it out of the bag to refill it.

The pockets on the hip belt are quite spacious. They fit several power bars each easily.

This is one piece of gear I have really enjoyed.

Comments about Gregory Iso Daypack - '08 Closeout:

I only use this pack for summer day hiking on trails. I wanted something a bit larger than the reactor but not too big. The Iso's capacity is just right. It's extremely comfortable and does not have all the unnecessary stiff support technology (uncomfortable for me) that some other packs have. For winter hiking and if I have to take more gear I would use my other pack (Granite Gear Arrete, a similar pack with sturdier fabric. I have not tested the Iso in winter and or bad weather conditions.
I have not noticed any problems with this pack. The features are functional. I am not sure about the fabric though. I understand that this is not a pack to take off trail as it can be easily ripped by branches or rocks. But I have not witnessed that and I will not because I won't trust this pack fabric in rough off trail terrain.

Comments about Gregory Iso Daypack - '08 Closeout:

Have used this pack a few times for day hikes. It's a great light-weight pack and very comfortable. Outside mesh pockets are great for water bottles (not a fan of hydration packs) and the mesh "wings" on the belt are very convenient. Love all the pockets and straps; great for clipping on a raincoat to let it dry out (for example). The only con is that it's kind of small (smaller than it looks in pictures). It was a stretch to fit food, rain gear, first aid, bug spray/sunscreen, water, and guidebook for the day. Forces you to travel light!
