My B-17 was comfortable right out of the box. If you are using a gel saddle and wonder why things hurt... it's the gel! You need a saddle that supports your sit bones without have squishy stuff that pushes up against your parts and pieces.

The Brooks does the trick and I'm totally satisfied with mine.

Unbelievable comfort, if you're willing to deal with the 1,000 miles or so that it takes to break in to your sit bones and get nice and soft. A great choice if you want that classic feel to your ride, and want supreme comfort, not to mention a saddle that you'll never get rid of. Being leather it's not so water friendly though, so definitely invest in some proofide(NOT SHOE POLISH),either from Brooks or another leather wares company, which will also aid with the break in process. As for weight, it's not too heavy, but it's also no Selle Italia SLR carbon.

I have the B17 Special champion green, which is a nice step up from the original.

I thought the saddle was very comfortable out of the box. I was surprised how comfortable it was when I felt how stiff the seat was. Now that I have used it for a couple months I can feel it starting to loosing up and break in and wow, it is VERY VERY comfortable! Having my last seat stolen was the best thing that has happened to my bike!

OK, I have a wall of saddles, those that come on my Trek bikes, and many others that I've bought over the years looking for the 'right' saddle for my sore butt... a buddy I was riding with from D.C. to Pittsburgh last fall suggested Brooks as 'the' saddle to ride... When I got back home I bought my first... which after breaking in got appropriated by my spouse for her saddle on the tandem... so, I bought the B-17 Special and am nearly through a good break-in period, after 500 miles... Please note that I've used the Proofide leather treatment to help with the break-in... However, right out of the box the saddle is still better than anything else I've ever tried... I used to end up riding almost side saddle after 50-60 miles, and I've not had a single such experience since... Brooks saddles eventually conform to your sit bones and put the pressure right there where it should be, unlike many of the gel saddles that feel so good on the salesroom floor and end up hurting your soft tissue on a long ride... I know that these aren't cheap, but I ride 5000 miles a year and expect to ride my Brooks for the rest of my life... Do yourself (and your butt) a favor and go with one of the best saddles out there.... Brooks!

I was a bit weary of spending this much on a saddle, but after reading hundreds of reviews online I knew it had to be good. I have had mine for almost a year/1,200 miles. The first couple hundred miles or so it was very stiff, but after the break-in period it is a dream. I will never buy or ride on another synthetic/gel/plastic saddle again.

Had Brooks before. Love 'em! Would like titanium rails for lightness, but as one guy commented, the extra weight won't matter because you'll ride farther faster because you are more comfortable. I won't ride anything else. Period. The fancier ones are for people with more money than gray matter. If you're overweight, you know why. I've raced in my youth on a PX-10E and this saddle came in the box. Also had a Raleigh Comp and this saddle came with it. Had a Can-o-ale from a mechanic and this was it's seat. Go figure!

I bought a Serotta second-hand with a smell (err, gel) seat and could not wait to get rid of energy-robbing bounce. Please!

I have ridden up to 15 hours on this saddle. It seems very hard to the touch, but it was fairly comfortable from the beginning and as it broke in it became unnoticeable. That is a good thing after hours in the saddle. I don't notice any discomfort. I don't find myself trying to shift around while riding either. It is hard for me to imagine getting a bike without a Brooks saddle in the future.

I've owned two Brooks saddles and a half dozen other saddles purported to be unusually comfortable (and fairly expensive at ~$75-$125). I can compare and contrast the merits of my fizik, Selle San Marco, Selle Italia and Avenir saddles as they all strike me as similar products, despite a variety of designs and materials. Some are slightly better than others, some seem to fit me well while others don't, etc.

The Brooks saddles, however, are absolutely incomparable in comfort. Ranking them with the other saddles I've experienced would be utterly silly. It would feel like comparing Mickey Mantle to a Little Leaguer.

I've toured the Pacific Coast of the United States on a B17. My backside wouldn't have survived the trip on any other saddle I've tried. I'll be cycling the Transamerica route this summer atop a B17 or a Champion Flyer (the sprung version of the B17).

I realize that other companies are now manufacturing similar, leather saddles. I suspect that some of these saddles do or someday will rival Brooks' quality. Unfortunately, though, many are manufactured with lower quality materials and fail to provide the same comfort. Until another company manufacturing leather saddles builds an extremely strong reputation, I won't risk straying from Brooks' product line.

BUY A BROOKS! Once you break it in, you'll understand.

I used this seat on my Specialized Tricross. I bought the Brooks Leather Conditioner and placed it on the saddle every day before I rode for the first two weeks. Unfortunately I got numbness after riding for 10 miles. The seat was set-up properly, level and not too high. I'm disappointed because of all these great reviews, then again I know saddle choice varies by the individual. I had to trade it in for a saddle with a "love channel."

This is a saddle that will break after a long period! There is no such thing as confy out of the box unless you don't feel anything on your bottoms! after it breaks in it will be super confortable! it took around 500 km for mine to break in... and it will probabbly get better with time.

On the down side: it is heavy.

Alos, there is a narrow version. I found about it after I got mine, which is nice, but i would have prefered the narrow one.
