Comments about Thule Helium 2-Bike Hitch Rack:
we tried to use this hitch rack on our 2008 subaru legacy.for a several week road trip. the first issue is the plastic knob on the back. it is the first point of contact with the road when you bottom out, and you will! the bottom part of the rack where the plastic knob is connected, points at a downward angle and is 14 inches long (other racks extend 8-9 inches) and this ruins any sort of departure angle making even speed bumps difficult to navigate. we even encountered several driveways, both commercial and residential, that we couldn't even enter due to this low riding hitch hanging way off the back of the car. 2nd issue is the build quality....our plastic knob broke off, the arms of the hitch eventually started to sag unevenly. (driver side one seemed to be giving way with on going use), the plastic components used to secure the bikes are difficult and two of the rubber straps broke while on the road. bottom line is this product should have seen more real world testing before releasing it to market. Comments about Thule Helium 2-Bike Hitch Rack:
I purchased Thule Helium 970 in July of 2009. I like the bike carrier because it is light and very convenient.
I just unsure about the rack anti - theft protection. You can't lock the receiver pin like on previous Thule models. And in locked position the Thule Stinger Swinger hitch knob will spin freely but you could easy release the hitch rotating the tighten bolt using a fine plumbing pliers at the open space next to the knob.
I think the stinger assembly needs better anti - theft protection or Thule should design a lockable receiver pin for the model.
