Comments about Thule Atlantis 1600 XT Roof Box:
Rather than tieing individual items down I recommend that you fill the box with enough gear to lock everything into place, like a puzzle. We drove 7 hours and back with no issues with stability or vibrations at speeds up to 80 mph.

Comments about Thule Atlantis 1600 XT Roof Box:
We've had cartop cargo boxes previously, but they leaked and were noisy. I bought the Thule Atlantis based on capacity and fit to car, but was quickly rewarded by performance. Our first trip was about 550 miles with conditions changing from perfect (Southern CA) to high winds, driving rain, then into higher elevation with subzero temps and snow. We arrived at our destination with all gear in the same condition as it was when we packed. We were careful to not overload, and to make sure all of the cap locks engaged fully (may not if you put too much in).
This box was awesome!!

Comments about Thule Atlantis 1600 XT Roof Box:
I have a 2007 Lexus RX350. After utlizing the 'fit guide' I originally chose the Yakima Sky Box 16S. It was comparable to the Thule Atlantis 1600 but $150 cheaper. Unfortunately, when I got it on my car, the hatchback door only opened 2/3 of the way before it hit the box. REI was really good and took it back right away. After more investigation I got the Thule Atlantis 1600. After taking out the rubber dampers in front of the front cross bar I was able to install it and it clears the back hatchback door by about two inches when fully opened. Although it was more expensive, I found the Thule easier to install. As opposed to a two part latching of the Yakima, the Thule was an almost one handed screwing down of the clamps. The Thule doesn't include a mat or cargo net, I used an old yoga mat and it fit perfectly in the bottom. We carried two golf club bags and a full case of water and still had room for miscellaneous items. No noticeable changes when driving the 200 miles to Lake Tahoe even at 75 plus mph through windy mountain terrain. I am looking forward to many more trips with it.

Comments about Thule Atlantis 1600 XT Roof Box:
The Atlantis 1600 is easy to use and the lid is light enough that any woman can lift it (my biggiest concern). Love it and it looks good on my car too.

We are using this for a summer Colorado trip and to take our gear. We have noticed that Thule is obviously the product of choice for the area of Colorado where we are spending our summer.

Comments about Thule Atlantis 1600 XT Roof Box:
My wife is a fiber artist specializing in dyeing yarn so she has large volume, but fairly lightweight bags of yarn to take to shows.
We started with a Thule Tahoe bag and were pretty happy with it, but it had to be removed when empty and even full it would flop in the wind sometimes and was far from what I would call aerodynamic.
Obviously, this box at over three times the price, is not really to be compared with the bag.
If it is not windy, I can install and remove the box by myself. The clamping system works easily and holds the box very secure. The box does not vibrate, whistle, leak or anything else due to wind and weather; I do not even notice it is there while driving.
The way it opens from either side makes is easy to load. About the only thing to watch that something does not accidentally cover one of the latch points; I found that plastic bags needed to be kept where they could not do this.
I have now taken to transporting my photography lighting stands and etc. in the box, too. They will fit in the car, but only at an angle and are much easier to get to in the box.
A final advantage over a cargo bag is that you can make use of much more of the available space; the bag would tend to droop between the racks, etc..

Love the extra storage this gives me for long trips. A larger unit would fit my SUV but this unit will also work on a smaller vehicle if I want to downsize later on.

There was plenty of room for the antenna on the back of the car. Lower wind noise than others we've tried.

Comments about Thule Atlantis 1600 XT Roof Box:
We have a small car, a dog, a baby on the way and a desire to have a lot of outdoor activities. This roof box is an answer to all our space problems! A baby goes to the rear seat of a car, a dog goes to the trunk, baby's bike trailer along with two front bike wheels and some luggage go to roof box, that leaves enough space on the roof for two bikes! Voila! We are ready to go!
It is easy to install, easy to open (from either side of a car), it doesn't make much noise, it's just great!

Comments about Thule Atlantis 1600 XT Roof Box:
I recently moved from Dallas to Denver, and wanted extra cargo room for the trip, and then a cargo rack to use for skis/snowboards/fly fishing gear/etc, after I got to Colorado. I wanted a Yakima cargo rack, but the "fit my car" guide on the Yakima website said that NONE of Yakima's products would fit my 2008 Ford Escape (NONE -- not any of their bike racks, cargo racks, trailer hitch bike racks -- NOTHING!). So, I called their tech support people, and they told me the same thing -- that they did not make a single product that would fit my Ford Escape. They said that if I wanted to get a Yakima rack, I'd have to buy a different car -- I was stunned, as I had used many Yakima products in the past, and was always impressed with them. I STILL cannot believe that none of their products fit the Escape, but I was in no position to argue with them.
So I called Thule -- they said that all but a couple of their cargo racks would work perfectly. In fact, they said that ALL of them would fit, but some would conflict with the lift gate, a little. So, I went to REI and bought the Atlantis 1600 XT, as it was the biggest cargo rack that would fit my Escape.
I could not be happier with this rack -- it takes seconds to install (even by myself), it fits securely, I cannot hear any wind noise from it (even at 80 mph), it's got tons of room, and it looks good (I have had it on for two months, and don't see any reason to remove it -- it's now part of the car!).
One of my favorite things about this rack is the ability to open it from either side -- a HUGE plus when loading/unloading gear, and it also comes in handy when parking dictates that you don' t have access to one side or the other.
I HIGHLY recommend the Atlantis 1600 XT Roof Box if you want a functional, attractive, well-designed cargo rack for your vehicle. I don't think there's a better alternative out there.
As for Yakima -- I have no idea what they are thinking, but I believe they've missed the boat, BIG TIME!
