The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about Thule Atlantis 1600 XT Roof Box:
We use it to go from Az to San Diego and carry everything from luggage to water sport equip. It is spacious, easy to attach and remove and Quiet on the long ride.
Warning: Buy it new or you have NO Warranty. We bought ours used from another REI member and a month later had a problem where the latch would unexpectedly fly open. Not fun.Thule has no ability to repair even if you pay. Warranty or nothing.

Easy installation system. Two sets of golf clubs disappear in it, leaving lots of room for other necessities. Minimal road noise. No apparent vibration.

Comments about Thule Atlantis 1600 XT Roof Box:
This Thule roof box far exceeded my wildest expectations. I used roof box for a 6,000 mile road trip that started in New Hampshire and eventually ended in San Diego, CA. I drove through violent winds of the plains, treacherous thunderstorms, and have had more than two feet of snow accumulate on it while parked without any water entering the interior. Capacity is incredible...I'm always amazed at how much I can store in this box.
Having the box on my vehicles roof diminished my MPG from by 2 MPG while driving at 80 mph on the highway. You can definitely feel gusts of wind more with this box on top but keeping two hands on the wheel resolves this annoyance. Being able to lock my belongings up gave me peace of mind whenever I left my vehicle.
Tip: If you're going to fill it to capacity make sure you have at least one extra set of hands available to help close the lid and seat all three latches. All three latches must be seated in order to lock the box and pull your key out.

Comments about Thule Atlantis 1600 XT Roof Box:
I've been using my Atlantis 1600 for about 1 1/2 years now.
The good: Quite large, however, the 100 pound load limit must be respected for common sense reasons (heavy stuff down low, light stuff on the car roof). Seems rain tight (no leaks yet). Easy to use roof rack grabbers. No worries about the box coming loose. No wind noise.
The less than good: My 2007 came with fragile parts holding the "rack grabbers" in place. (Only needed when the box is off the car.) The restraining devices eventually broke off but the local Atlantis store provided an upgraded set for free. The other shortcoming is the key provides all the force to keep the top of the box closed. I'm worried that someday the lock mechanism will fail while trying to force the latches into the locked position.

Comments about Thule Atlantis 1600 XT Roof Box:
After exhaustive research, I'm now the proud owner of the Thule Atlantis 1600 for my 2007 Lexus RX 350.[...] I'm very impressed with this cargo box. It's a Swedish company, and they manufacture them here in the U.S.A., in New England! Contrary to some negatives I read elsewhere about needing to place all the pressure on the key when opening it, this year's model has a medal ring with a lever surrounding the key-lock which is used to open it, thereby not placing any strain on the key whatsoever. Also, the clamps that affix to your cross-bars are metal with a rubber coating so they won't scratch your rooftop. Included with this box are some nylon lashes to hold down your cargo if needed.[...] I saved $177 discount and ended up with taxes, costing only $504. And this cargo box carries a LIFETIME WARRANTY[...]PS-as an added bonus for us, my RX 350 clears our 8' garage door with the Atlantis 1600 installed, with ease--several inches to spare (I have the standard 15" tires)!

Comments about Thule Atlantis 1600 XT Roof Box:
We use this on our Subaru Impreza - it fits very well, though the hatch does bump against it. We a re still able to open the back fine. We primarily use this to store camping gear, and it is very spacious. Very little wind noise, even on the freeways; kinda forget it is on the roof sometimes.
The grabbers are only good for grabbing; if you put any weight on them directly, they will bend (found out the hard way). Also, one of the two keys broke, thankfully not in the lock, but it seems the metal used is very fragile and not particularly strong. Haven't looked into getting another key made, but will definitely need to do so.
Easy to open, make sure your cargo isn't in the way of the latches on the inside to close it, otherwise, it won't shut properly.

Comments about Thule Atlantis 1600 XT Roof Box:
I recently moved from Dallas to Denver, and wanted extra cargo room for the trip, and then a cargo rack to use for skis/snowboards/fly fishing gear/etc, after I got to Colorado. I wanted a Yakima cargo rack, but the "fit my car" guide on the Yakima website said that NONE of Yakima's products would fit my 2008 Ford Escape (NONE -- not any of their bike racks, cargo racks, trailer hitch bike racks -- NOTHING!). So, I called their tech support people, and they told me the same thing -- that they did not make a single product that would fit my Ford Escape. They said that if I wanted to get a Yakima rack, I'd have to buy a different car -- I was stunned, as I had used many Yakima products in the past, and was always impressed with them. I STILL cannot believe that none of their products fit the Escape, but I was in no position to argue with them.
So I called Thule -- they said that all but a couple of their cargo racks would work perfectly. In fact, they said that ALL of them would fit, but some would conflict with the lift gate, a little. So, I went to REI and bought the Atlantis 1600 XT, as it was the biggest cargo rack that would fit my Escape.
I could not be happier with this rack -- it takes seconds to install (even by myself), it fits securely, I cannot hear any wind noise from it (even at 80 mph), it's got tons of room, and it looks good (I have had it on for two months, and don't see any reason to remove it -- it's now part of the car!).
One of my favorite things about this rack is the ability to open it from either side -- a HUGE plus when loading/unloading gear, and it also comes in handy when parking dictates that you don' t have access to one side or the other.
I HIGHLY recommend the Atlantis 1600 XT Roof Box if you want a functional, attractive, well-designed cargo rack for your vehicle. I don't think there's a better alternative out there.
As for Yakima -- I have no idea what they are thinking, but I believe they've missed the boat, BIG TIME!
