Comments about Gerber Option 50 Flashlight:

The batteries are to be installed opposite to what is denoted on the package. Other than that this seems to be a above average light.

I agree with the other 3 review regarding the smooth finish. It makes it a bit hard to grasp, but is easily remedied.

Overall I'm happy with my purchase. Light is uniform and bright.

Comments about Gerber Option 50 Flashlight:

The "too slippery to hold" barrel problem is easily solved by 1st wrapping a section of the barrel with adhesive/athletic tape then wrapping black "friction" tape (cheap, at the hardware store) over that. This also enables the light to be held with your teeth.

Comments about Gerber Option 50 Flashlight:

I found this flashlight to be quite useful and handy in most situations. It bit too heavy for backpacking but I found it quite useful for dayhiking (coming in late) or just household chores. It appears to be well built and very water resistance. It also work pretty well in the cold weather as long as it pretty dry. (Cold to touch though and I think ice build up could affect the on and off button.) I enjoyed the flexibility it provides by allowing you to power this device with one AA or one AAA or one CR123 battery. Power of each battery type determined how bright the flashlight will be. Still, even with AAA, the flashlight is quite bright. The battery life is pretty good as well. It was for this battery allowance that I brought this light.

The two major downsides, I can live with not having adjustable beam lights. Its not that important in the general scheme of things. However, like the reviewer from the Option 60 flashlight, I found the handle of this flashlight to be too smooth for a proper grip, especially when it wet or your hand is sweaty. However, I cured this problem by applying one of these grippers pads around the handle. But I guess that cost this flashlight one star. (If you wear gloves, that would help with the traction as well.)
