Comments about REI Peak UL Shocklight Trekking Poles - Pair:
Easy to adjust and extremely lightweight. Few simple twists to lock them in place with the correct height and they hold very firm under pressure. I have one bad knee and the Shocklight system is a blessing and does not make any annoying squeaky noises, etc.

Comments about REI Peak UL Shocklight Trekking Poles - Pair:
Previous model of PEAK UL series had less than ideal locking mechanism and it was especially bad when they are wet. New model improved this problem and now you won't spend more than a minute to lock them even when they are wet.
Now here is my complaint. The antishock model has a feature to turn off antishock, but one of my pair didn't hold the state after minutes of usage. It kept turn on antishock on uphil. And unlike previous reviewer one of my pair had metalic spring noise and it was annoying especially when I go downhill on rocky trails.
Consider non-antishock model instead of this if you might be annoyed by noise and antishock lock problem.
Overall these are grait trekking poles, but considering its price I cannot give more than average score. They should improve antishock lock to be more reliable and spring noise should be improved.

Comments about REI Peak UL Shocklight Trekking Poles - Pair:
I am writing this for my wife who at 59 has had two knee replacements. We went backpacking in Yellowstone in August 2009; Grebe Lake, Shoshone Lake. She found these poles to be invaluable. Carrying a full pack and with one arthritic foot, she used them mostly for water crossings and uphill/downhill trail sections. They gave her stability and confidence in slippery situations and with the shock absober they relieved pressure on her foot going up/down. Because she didn't use them all the time it was great that they collapsed and extended so easily. She said the light weight was nice; anything heavier would have been burdensome. We are buying a pair for our daughter for Xmas.
