Comments about REI Relief Shocklight Women's Trekking Poles - Pair:
First of all, I would have sprained my ankle or slid down a mountain a dozen times without these things. So if you're trekking in the Himalayas or anywhere else, poles are a GREAT idea. I say that because I was very close to not buying or bringing these at all.
These poles are very strong, study, and thick. They don't have as much flexibility and shock-absorption as my sister's Leki's, which were a lot more expensive and felt like butter, so expect a harder feel on these. For me, I ended up liking the harder feel because it added control for uphill climbs, especially when you need to pull yourself up on them.
The grip is fantastic. I LOVED having the double-sized grip so that you can use also as a staff. After a while, my hands and arms got sore, so the option to vary it up was invaluable. I did have some chaffing problems and callouses, but after 10 hours a day I'd be surprised not to.
The LOCKS. They went out at a few crucial moments on my trek. In comparison to the other folks' poles though, they were okay. Almost everyone's went out at some point. So the jury's still out on this one --just make sure you pull as tight as you can when you lock them. And then don't be surprised if they get stuck there afterwards.
Nice investment overall.

This is my first pair of hiking poles. Was going to buy Leki, but liked the grip flexibility and how easy the poles are to adjust.
