    The REI Member Dividend

The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.

Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.

Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

First the features I like about the Quick 2 System. I like the fact that MSR has moved beyond the PanHandler because one, it marred the coating of my cookset, and two, I was always afraid of dropping the pot if I relaxed my grip. The new Talon™ pot handle attaches to exterior brackets on the pots and has an easy press button for quick release. It's a tad lighter (tad meaning less than a third of an ounce) and folds on the outside of the pot, instead of taking up space inside of it.

The second feature I like is the strainer on the lid because I like to cook pasta dishes on the trail. (I save the water I have drained from my farfelle, for instance, to wash my dirty dishes.)

I like that the plates and mugs are color coded. I use the red for myself and the black for my husband. The cups are insulated stainless steel, and because they come with a sippy lid, they keep beverages hotter longer on those cool mornings and evenings. However, the trade off is ounces: 2.1 ounces for each mug to be exact.

I like that everything fits in one pot. I think this may be why the larger pot's capacity increased by ½ a liter, so they could accommodate everything. I was perfectly happy with my 2L pot, but to have both our gear fit in one space sells it for me. (Bonus feature: Volume marks on the side of the pots in half liter increments.)

I don't like that it didn't come with a stuff sack, but with a little finagling I am able to put it in my Blacklite pouch (but that's just a minor point against it). As mentioned before, I don't like the extra ounces, but overall I am really pleased with the MSR Quick 2 System and look forward to my husband and I using it when we hit the trail together.

Comments about MSR Quick 2 System Cookset:

The pots are fantastic, but the handle is difficult to attach and very weak. It attaches via two aluminum prongs. It can be difficult to maneuver the handle into place, especially over a hot stove. Worse, the prongs on my set bent within just a few uses, rendering the handle virtually useless. [...]

Comments about MSR Quick 2 System Cookset:

Not sure what the gripe is with the handle? I can exchange the handle between pots with no problem. Been using it for 3 seasons and barely shows any sign of wear. From car camping with all the luxuries, multiday kayaking trips, and minimalist overnights, thsi set has proved its worth.
Used to use my friends GSI minimalist 2 but it was too small. The wider base and extra room allows me to cook for more than two if necessary. All that is needed is for the extra person to carry there own plate/bowl and mug. The wider base is much more stable on the burner as well. Anyone who has tried to stir a slim tall pot knows how tough it can be. I can stir one handed!
I realize that this unit is slightly heavier than the aforementioned GSI. If you are really going for weight savings than a single pot is the answer anyways.
Cleaning has never been difficult. A little water in the pot, maybe heat it up a bit, and wipe it out. Viola.
The mugs are great and keep coffee hot much longer than you'd expect. A definite bonus!

Comments about MSR Quick 2 System Cookset:

We purchased this set for our Appalachian Trail thru-hike, but luckily had the sense to try it out before we leave. We used oil/butter and everything still STUCK. We couldn't even clean it out. Our main priority is light and non-stick for 2 people. For [$] we were really hopeful. We like the setup of the bowls and cups fitting inside, but the handle was pretty inadequate. It was very difficult to change the handle from pot to pot, specifically when using a canister stove. Anyway, we've got to find something else now which is a total bummer. We used to think extremely highly of MSR but we are now questioning the brand and their products.

Comments about MSR Quick 2 System Cookset:

I like to use this full system on short hikes (within a couple miles), but I usually dont need everything included unless Im hiking with inexperienced friends who do not have equipment. It is very easy to only use half the sysyem. I love being able to detach the handles, and use them on other items, they're also strong enough to support a full pot of water. As stated, I like the locking system on the lid. I dont like that this system isnt really compatible with my MSR frying pan, other than the handle (but this wouldnt stop me from buying again). The plastic grommet supporting the handle on top on the lid cracked, but still works (which is why I gave the item a 4/5). I bought one of these for my sister.
