I love this thing, but the manufacturer needs to work out some bugs. I’m waiting for my third one to arrive. The two previous machines lost the ability to hold pressure, which is what makes it work.

When it works, it really is as advertised: consistent, gourmet espresso wherever you go.

It uses ESE pods, so there’s no mess and no waste. Really convenient for camping. A true aficionado may be anti-pod, but since pods are sealed individually and are always packed tightly, they taste fresh and can be more consistent than shots pulled by a careless barista at the average shop. It’s very simple and makes a nice shot with a decent amount of crema.

I hope that my third machine will be more dependable. Anyone who cares enough to take an espresso machine out camping will probably use it more than 20 or 30 times--the average before the last two died. If you’re a real coffee addict, unfortunately I’d advise taking some kind of backup option just in case this one decides to quit working.

Luckily REI stands behind the things they sell, or it wouldn’t be worth the money. I’m going to keep trying until I get one that lasts.

Agree with other review. I got about 20-30 uses and then it stopped holding pressure. Returned (to Importika) [...] Great gadget when it worked, but reliability is really a problem.
