Comments about Motorola SX600R NiMH Rechargeable Two-Way Radio - Pair:
These are the perfect item for an emergency or in travel, when there is no phone reception. Since they take triple A batteries as well, you do not have to worry about the battery when it runs out of charge. The signal is very strong at any location and numerous pass codes and quiet talk increase privacy. Voices can be heard perfectly without any interference. Charging the radios is very simple and if you want to protect your radios from the elements, just purchase a waterproof case or cover. These radios are outstanding for the price and offer superb communication and are simple to use. I wouldn't go on an outdoor excursion without them!!

Comments about Motorola SX600R NiMH Rechargeable Two-Way Radio - Pair:
I used these radios when hunting in western IL. they worked well until the temperature dropped below freezing and the batteries stopped working. switching back to AAA batteries should fix this problem but not something feasilble in the field.

Comments about Motorola SX600R NiMH Rechargeable Two-Way Radio - Pair:
These walkies failed in so many ways, I couldn't get back to REI fast enough to return them. Do NOT waste your time on these.
Issues:
1) The USB charging seems really cool since you can charge them easily with a universal standard. That sounds great except that when they're charging, the units turn off. Plan for some "radio silence" while they recharge...
2) ... which you'll need to do often. The batteries on these units got sucked dry in no time, even when not in use, which was quite often, because....
3) ... the range is terrible. With two cars, less than a mile apart with line of sight visibility, you'd think communication would be easy. Not so. We also tried these in the back country, and it wasn't until you were almost on top of each other that they got any range. If you plan to use these beyond shouting distance, don't waste your time.
All in all, these were a terrible buy. Spend a few more bucks and go with the Midlands. Much better units.
