Comments about Joby Gorillapod Focus Tripod:
You might be asking, "Why do I need to spend an extra [$] more to get this high end Gorillapod when there is a SLR version for [$]?" The lower end model is really only designed for Digital or Film SLRs with cheap plastic kit lenses. The extra weight that this tripod supports (11 lbs vs 6.6lbs) is worth the money as is the ability to use your own tripod head for further adjustment potential. The Focus also has aluminum sockets which are an improvement over the plastic ones on all other models. As for the utility of a gorillapod in general- think of how many times you've wanted a tripod and the only thing around was a streetlamp, a tree, or a fencepost? At just over 1 lb, this lightweight tripod easily attaches to the outside of your camerapack or backpack. While there are other companies immitating the Gorillapod, only Joby makes the Gorillapod Focus which is worthy of attaching to your high end camera gear. Joby is a member of 1% for the planet along with other forward thinking companies like Patagonia so you can feel good about your purchase.
