Comments about Delta Kayaks Sixteen Kayak with Skeg:
The Delta 16 is my third kayak and I have been paddling on and off for over 25 years. I've been paddling mainly in Lake Michigan, Lake Superior, and other large inland lakes. I am a senior citizen and found the Delta 16 attractive for several reasons. First, price wise, it's a good compromise between rotomolded hulls and the more expensive fiberglass or carbon boats. I like it for it's light weight. At only 50 pounds, I can heft it up on my SUV by myself. I like the adjustments on the seat, as you can move the seat-back up and down to provide appropriate back support. The seat assembly slides back and forth with one adjusting screw. You can also adjust the seat-back to allow you to lean back or forward with a simple clinch cleat on the cockpit. The hatch covers are solid and keep hatch contents bone dry – the lock down knobs are not a problem. This is the first boat I have had with a skeg. Keep in mind that a skeg does not function like a rudder. It's used for tracking. Like all good sea kayaks, the Delta 16 tends to turn into the wind (weathercock). So, if you don't want to work hard when turning into the wind, lift the skeg. Keep in mind that this kayak is not a beginner boat and is really not built for heavyweights. I am very happy with the performance of my Delta 16 and feel it's an excellent value. It will probably last me a lifetime, ha ha.

Comments about Delta Kayaks Sixteen Kayak with Skeg:
My build: about 185, 6' and a 33 inch inseam. If you are any taller than that, this is NOT your boat. My legs just barely fit in the cockpit. That said, even at the extremes of adjustment, I was surprised at how comfortable it was. A very nice seat compared to the others. I personally dig the hatch system, and like the hatch dogs that the other reviewer did not care for. I can't imagine living without the two day hatches - nice touch. The finish on this kayak rivals some of the best motorcycles or cars. The reason I went for this boat on an uncharacteristic whim is that it was just so darn beautiful. Easily the best looking kayak I shopped. On the water, it was a bit tippy for my novice skills… I'm giving it respect until my skills match this boat's character. But even my clumsy paddling technique gets this narrow boat to slice through the water in a way that makes you want to take it out again and again.
This is my first boat, and I bought it without much research. If you are just starting out, like I am, you might find the sixteen a bit tippy for your tastes. If you are an advanced boater, I'm sure the sixteen's maneuverability will please you. I have no regrets, however. After my first paddle in this thing, I'm addicted, and am happy to have a boat I won't grow out of any time soon. But its sporty nature should be met with baby steps if you're just starting out. Start with smooth water!

Comments about Delta Kayaks Sixteen Kayak with Skeg:
Just picked up my Delta 16 today! This is just an informational note that the 2010 model has a larger rear overnight hatch and no rear day hatch. Before purchasing, I sat in an older model with the rear day hatch and it was one of the few things I didn't like. I couldn't see myself accessing the rear day hatch on the water without risking tipping the kayak and losing the contents. I was pleasantly surprised to find the Delta 16 I ordered online arrived with no rear day hatch! I haven't had a chance to paddle it yet but I'm giving it 5 stars for now just to offset the 1 star review from the person that didn't like the hatch covers. Personally I like them.

Comments about Delta Kayaks Sixteen Kayak with Skeg:
could be a good boat if they would replace those plastic protruding knobs on the hatch covers.go with shock cord closures as on the other delta's.these knobs break and are just generally obnoxious.if they would show a closeup view of those knobs and not hide them in the shadows people would see what I mean.the skeg cable and housing in the rear compartment are poorly designed and take up too much usable space.
