Comments about CamelBak Octane XC Hydration Pack - 70 oz.:
I bought the Octane for long, fast day hikes (10-20 miles) and trail runs. Of course it's harder to run with something on your back, but having two litres really lengthens the leash and I prefer it to hip packs. The pack itself is ultralight, adjustable hip/chest straps, took a little while to find perfect fit. Kind of hard to fill to capacity; I always spill. Room in hip pockets for gels, a map slides behind the bladder, a phone and car key fit in flap, and little else.

Comments about CamelBak Octane XC Hydration Pack - 70 oz.:
I bought the XC for my first sport class adventure race (I wore it almost 8 hours except for when paddling). It performed perfectly. It sits snug to your back but the construction lets some air flow between you and it better than on a typical Camelbak. I also own a more typical day pack by Camelbak, and that one makes me sweat and has too many straps flying around when I run.
The XC has just enough space for adventure racing. I put the required stuff (whistle, pen, headlamp, space blanket) in the top pocket. Then I put food and my sun glasses in the hip pockets. I've read reviews saying the pockets are hard to reach, but I disagree. They're not as easy as a pants pocket, but totally reachable while trail running. The cinch strap on the back are great, too. I kept chamois in there and hooked my hat and bike gloves to it, too.
It's very comfortable to wear, and the plastic clip on the shoulder strap keeps the drinking tube from flopping around.
It's not for everyday use, but this specialty Camelbak is a must for long trail runs or adventure racing.
