Comments about Ruff Wear K-9 Overcoat II - '08 Closeout:
Definitely buy this coat over the 2009 model (in green) on REI.com or in stores. The green model is thin, flimsy, and not as reflective. The green model does have a bigger head hole.
Keep in mind that labradors have bigger heads than some of the breeds of the same chest/girth size.
My 55 lb siberian husky/lab mix fits a medium in this coat (she has it in red - available in stores for sale at a discount now - Nov 08). I am ordering a large blue in this coat now for my 65 lb black lab. His head won't fit in the medium and it's tight on his neck, even though his girth is 28 inches. THe coat size will be a bit big on him, but this coat is still a much nicer coat the green 2009 model on rei.com., which my third dog (65 lb lab) has.
Would be a five star if they made the neck hole bigger.

This jacket is one of several Ruff Wear coats that make up Auggie's collection. It is made of bomber materials, meant to last a long time, and keeps him warm on cold days and nights while we camp in cold climates in the winter. This old Shorthair x Dobie boy is 65 lbs. and the large fits him like a glove over the neck while the stomach area is adjustable. This jacket is all good.

I have been looking for a coat for our boxer Skyla that has a good fit yet she can still run and play without looking like she is wearing a trenchcoat. I bought last years model so I saved some dollars. She moves about and walks ok with it on but I can just see she would rather not wear anything. With boxers thin coat they get cold fast so she will just have to tough it out. All I did was measure the length of her back and around her chest. The large fits her perfectly and she is a small bodied boxer.

I have bought (and had to return) several coats for my 4 year old, 21 lbs, schnoodle. Finally, found this one at REI and LOVE it. Very easy to get on and off. Like the fact that it fits great, can be adjusted to be tightened or loosened around the dog's belly, and is easy to clean. My dog and I have been out on trails for a week now with windy and cold conditions and the coat had been very good. Easy to clean off mud and dirt. Like the safety feature of the reflective stripes on the side. Highly recommend.

We have a 4 year old American Staffordshire Terrier/Pitbull. Because she is short-haired, she gets cold rather quickly on long winter hikes. This is the first coat that we've found that fits her well enough and doesn't slide around when she runs. It seems to keep her warm enough. She is very reluctant to take it off when we get home! We have yet to try it in snow. Most of our hikes are in our local mountains where the temperatures are between 30 and 40 degrees.
The adjustable velcro straps work better than I expected. It holds the coat in place while allowing for movement. I agree that an additional strap along the back of the jacket would be useful. Although the absence of the extra strap doesn't take away from the coat. I can't speak to durability since we've only had the coat for short period of time. I can say that we haven't been disappointed with the quality of Ruff Wear products. So, I think this coat will work just fine. It was such a good price that I wish I had bought an extra one.
Be sure to read the sizing information from Ruff Wear carefully. We initially bought the wrong size because we assumed that our dog would need a large. She is a size large in other dog apparel. Based on their size chart, she was a medium.
