First off, I don't have this 'Safari' model. I own the previous 'Deluxe' bag. I like that they improved the water resistance on this model. I had to cover my Deluxe bag with a plastic grocery bag to keep the contents dry while riding in the rain. Those side pockets on both models are great for small items like energy bars, lip balm, bandannas, etc. The way the top pocket opens towards the cyclist is a good design also. Very convenient for getting items out while on the bike.

The main thing I think this Safari model is missing is some sort of carrying strap. I was able to hook a shoulder strap onto my Deluxe bag, which is essential since you'll probably be carrying this bag with you every time you step away from your bike. The pictures of the Safari bag don't show any attachment points to hook on a strap (unless you can hook onto the side mesh pockets). This is an oversight in the design of this bag. A clear map pocket is missing also, but you can rig something yourself with velcro and a separate map case.

For my next long tour I might buy a handlebar basket and use that to hold a small watertight day pack (or a small day pack with a dry bag inside). Then I can use that day pack on day hikes or to carry stuff away from the bike.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

      I have a old deluxe handlebar bag and got this version for my other bike. Both these bags have a very good klick-fix mounting system - rigid, strong and easy to get off. I really liked the deluxe bag and was the best handlebar bag I could find.

      This bag is very waterproof, but that's it. Its on the small/medium size for a handlebar bag and there's only on compartment (not even a mesh pocket) for keys on the inside so there's lots of rummaging around when you try to find something in the bag.

      I hope they return the deluxe version of fix this one

      Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
