Comments about Arc'teryx Arrakis 65 Pack:

Great pack all around. I have a tendency to want one item to do the jobs of many items which makes me inherently picky about gear. I really struggled with the price of this pack but I am really happy I purchased it. I have used it for both day and overnight backpacking. It is way big for a day trip but I like the idea of carrying a little weight on day trips to make sure I am not surprised when the overnight trip comes. I also use this for day and overnight splitboarding trips and it has worked incredibly well. It also doubles as my backpack/stowage bag for my packraft. I live in Kodiak which makes Seattle weather look like Arizona and I have never had any wetness inside this pack. I leave it outside the tent because there is no reason to bring it in. I woke up one morning to find the bag had sagged and collected water over the side zippers. Not one drop made it inside.
This bag can really take a beating and will keep things dry so long as you don't put it under water. You pay for what you get and this bag is proof of it.

Comments about Arc'teryx Arrakis 65 Pack:

I'm impressed with the suspension even it is heavy - 5 lbs - it carries weight very well and is rugged. It is expensive but it also carries a life -time warranty. The tool attachment is clean and functional even with gloves.

Comments about Arc'teryx Arrakis 65 Pack:

I purchased my pack on sale. For the sale price I feel as if I got a great bargain. This pack is very simplistic and lightweight. I am 6' and had to return the tall for a regular size for optimum performance. Sure the shoulder straps can dig in a bit after a few days but the overall comfort and nonrestrictive movement this pack allows while wearing far outweighs any cons that one can come up with. For multi-day split board tours one might find that the pack sticks of your back rather far to the point where it doubles your width due to the lack of pleats and horizontal compression straps. The construction of this pack is rock solid and it's snow shedding and rain resistant characteristics are top notch! The peg system for which the shoulder straps attach to the dry bag-like body can be easily adjusted in the field and appear to very durable. At 65 liters this pack is on the big side, I like the fit of it so much that it has me volunteering my sherpa services and even has me carrying items such as snow shoes on the inside in order to fill it and thus justifying it's use for day trips.I like to snorkel with fins along tropical coastlines while towing a small raft for my boots and my pack. This pack is definitely splash resistant and can be stored in front of your footpegs under a sea kayak deck. Anyway, I hope you all find this informative! Have Fun!!!!

Comments about Arc'teryx Arrakis 65 Pack:

I have the 50L Tall not the 65 (I'm 6'0"). This bag rocks. It oddly does not have compression straps, but the fabric is so thick that it seems to hold lighter loads with surprising ease. The roll top, on other Arc'Teryx bags as well, works great with no possibility of a busted zipper. The fabric is like a heavy dry bag.

I'd add access to the bottom, but that's it. I use this bag for backcountry tele and climbing. It's perfect for both. I can do a 3 day hut trip or get all my sport gear with 70m rope in my 50L.

It's like a dry bag with a good suspension. Plus an extra $400.

Comments about Arc'teryx Arrakis 65 Pack:

Just got back from a 5 day trip across Isle Royale National Park. This pack was indestructible. It took a day to get the suspension set up correctly but once everything was adjusted properly the weight was distributed beautifully. Carried 30-40 lbs very well across rocky terrain. I ended up with a 2L hydration reservoir in the pack and 2 standard Nalgene bottles strapped to the side opposite the zippers. Hydration reservoir is hard to get to when the pack is loaded, so fill it early because you wont be getting to it in the middle of the day. I probably could have fit a 3L reservoir in there. Plenty of extra straps to hang gear, also carried a fishing pole in the velcro wraps. There was no rain but the pack did seem to shed whatever was spilled on it. I did have to play a little bit of pack Tetris to get all of my gear to fit properly, but the zippers don't seem to mind being stressed a little. The zippers could really use zipper garages, they leave a tiny gap at the top when fully closed. This pack is waterproof but definitely not submersible for a long period of time, it will eventually take on water if you drop it in a lake (there are some small drainage holes) but will outperform any pack with a rain cover. I opted for this rather than a bulky pelican case to protect my DSLR and associated gear.

Take the time to get the suspension balanced and you will not regret spending a little more on this pack, it will last for years. The suspension disk is also awesome, although those seem to be making their way across a lot of different brands of packs. Use the included lubricant on the disk or it will squeak a little (I think it is just some silicon grease).

I seem to be just on the lower end of the tall size pack: 6'1" 33" waist. Shoulder straps are moved all the way down and out, the belt was nearly all the way tightened.

Can't wait to try this out on an extended trip.

Comments about Arc'teryx Arrakis 65 Pack:

I am a missionary and work with Indigenous peoples in primitive conditions and in remote mountain and jungle environments for up to a month at a time. When I am in the field I am there for the duration no matter what; therefore, I need gear with outstanding performance and tough.
This pack should have been named the bomb/ hurricane shelter. It's quality and construction are excellent! At first glance the harness mechanisms looked a little sketch, but once I set it up and checked it out it became apparent that simplicity and excellence makes perfect. When loaded, the hip belt moves so well with you that you could probably go dancing with this pack on. This pack is most definitely waterproof, it holds air so well that I believe I could use it as a flotation device. It measures right at 55 linear inches so it can be used as carry on luggage. The price is high; but unlike many purchases nowadays, you actually get what you pay for.
The cons..... I would like to have one or two smaller outside pockets; other than that, this is a superb backpack that will probably provide me 10 years of heavy use.
