I am new to backpacking and never thought I would get into it because I have a horrible back.

I purchased this pack and have been on 2 trips with it so far. The most recent trip was 3 LONG days in a very steep environment. My pack was heavy, close to 40 lbs., but I couldn't tell once it was on my body. Even at the end of the trip when my whole body was in pain, my pack was still comfy. I am able to move around and strech my back without removing the bag because of the pivoting hip belt.

I selected the Deva 70 over the 60 simply for the option of more space. I have never filled the 70 even close to full, so if you are looking for space, this is the pack for you.

If you purchase the Gregory rain cover, do not go with the medium which according to the scale should be the correct fit. I carry my sleeping pad on the outside, and the cover will not fit over everything. It did however work in a pinch and keep everything dry. The side pockets were not covered but because of the rubberized zippers, everything inside stayed dry.

The hip belt pockets could be a bit larger, but I can easily fit my digital camera and snacks in them.

I tried on a ton of packs before purchasing this one and I don't have a single real complaint about the bag....I absolutly love it. My sister-in-law has the Deva 70 as well and loves it just as much!
