Comments about Kelty Shiro 6 Tent:
The main thing to know about this tent is that it is not exactly a tent in the way you might expect. What you see in the photos is actually a giant fly. It doesn't have a tent floor. This is initially quite disconcerting, as you expect to walk into your "tent" and be "inside" but you are standing on dirt when you are inside. The two sleeping compartments they refer to are like mini tents that fit inside in the narrow ends, and these do have floors. Kelty does offer "footprints" that are sold separately, but they do not fit perfectly in my experience, and in fact aren't mentioned anywhere in the instructions.
We intended to have our kids sleep in the sleeping compartments on each side, and for my wife and I to sleep in the large middle area, but given the gaps around the foot of the tent, and the fact that the footprint doesn't seem to fit all that well (we tried it in both orientations), you may get creepy crawlies and mosquitoes inside the middle section, and when the footprint shifts around as people walk on it, you will find bits of exposed ground inside your 'tent'.
So think of this as really a large tent fly with two small tents that tuck inside it, and if that is what you want, then you will like this product.
I didn't feel that all this was well explained in the product documentation. It is as though a clever designer created this product, and someone else who didn't really understand it wrote the description.
We have used this and the REI Kingdom 6 product, and in terms of overall workmanship, ease of setup, design excellence and so forth, the Kingdom 6 is the stronger product. This said, this is not a bad product, and for some, it is probably ideal. Two couples camping together in an area prone to rain might like this a lot, for instance, as you could exit your sleeping pod and come into a common vestibule and get together with your fellow campers without going outside.
