Comments about Marmot PreCip Safari Hat - Men's:
This is a very decent hat. I also tried on the very popular Outdoor Research "Seattle Sombrero" and picked the Marmot instead. I picked it because the Marmot has a slightly smaller brim and feels less stiff and more comfortable. In addition, instead of velcro (that usually fills with my cat's fur) it has hidden magnetic tabs if you wish to pull the brims up.
Yesterday I took it out for a test. The conditions were very bad yesterday and my jacket completely wetted out (yes yes, I need to reapply DWR) and so did my pants. I think the area I was hiking in got 2 inches of rain that day, and it was also a bit breezy and there were a LOT of heavy drips coming down from the trees. The hat performed flawlessly, barely wetted out (a massive achievement) and stayed attached to my head very well without having to put the strap under my chin. It was comfortable and the mesh inner keeps your head slightly off the inside of the waterproof coating, so my head was dry but the mesh and inner were damp from my sweat. I was very pleased with that design - it appears they're trying to produce a double-walled tent effect and it seems to work. I didn't notice that the inside was damp until I finished the hike and inspected it. Still, unless it's actually raining I would certainly NOT be using it as a sun hat as the breathability just isn't there and it can never be as breathable as a true sun hat with no waterproof protection.
We'll see how long the DWR lasts for. I think I'll buy some spray to reapply it if it starts to lose it a bit.

Comments about Marmot PreCip Safari Hat - Men's:
I used this hat during the Breast Cancer 3-Day walk in Atlanta, during the constant rain of the first day, and it kept the rain out of my eyes and off my glasses. It also kept the rain from going down the back of my neck. Just one less thing I had to worry about during the walk.

Works well when hiking in rain and keeps my glasses dry. I wouldn't wear the hat in the summer when rain isn't expected though because it can be a bit hot at times.
