Comments about ASICS GT-2140 Road-Running Shoes - Men's:
This is at least the third generation of this shoe I have owned. I usually run with them for a certain period of time and then I retire them to my daily walking shoe. The previous generations have lasted me a very long time, very pleased.

Comments about ASICS GT-2140 Road-Running Shoes - Men's:
The elegant black-silver color scheme is so neat, my friends have mistaken them for formal shoes. I have just bought my fourth pair in five years, I keep buying them for looks and superior comfort when walking and standing. They were my first running shoes too, but I hated wearing them out. The first three pairs were not as durable as the other Asics I have owned (the upper lining wore out much sooner than the rest of the shoe), but I will give the new version five stars for unique looks (black-silver) and the benefit of the doubt on durability, hoping the upper lining has been strengthened. Highly recommended as a casual shoe if you walk a lot.
The most comfortable walking shoe I have ever tried on.

Comments about ASICS GT-2140 Road-Running Shoes - Men's:
I ran cross country in high school and college. I do occasional road races still.
I've run in NewBalance 660's, 803's, and brooks as well as a few other shoes (lower brands like saucony and countless nikes) over the years, but i have settled into this type exclusively for about 18 months now.
to be clear i throw away ALL my shoes at 650 miles regardless of appearance.
On the treadmill i feel this shoe cannot be beat. i am on my third pair of them (and near my 2,000'th mile) of treadmill work on these shoes, and the soles hold up well through an expected 600 mile lifespan. after wearing this shoe, i keep coming back. there is more flex than a NB 600 series, and the soles hold up just as well. nike air systems (even the variable PSI soles) just don't compete with the aasics gel system.
the only problem i have had with these shoes is in sand running. i have worn a pair of these until the plastic 'aasics' symbol on the sides was the only strapping left on the top. this took about 8 months of sand running. they pretty much looked like birkenstocks, with absolutely no mesh left whatsoever... once it got a few holes in it, it just shredded doing hill training on sand. the newbalance shoes have a more solid upper... but to me a shoe is mostly about your contact with the ground, and that's why i keep coming back to aasics.
for a gym shoe, this is the top of it's class, i would challenge anyone to show me a nike or newbalance that runs as uniform after 350 miles and beyond as these do. the gel used in this shoe is really top of the line.
i have not tried the trail running type of this shoe, and perhaps it's top would be more durable... but for what this is designed to do, i've yet to find it bested by Nb, Nike, or the likes.

I run a pretty good amount. These shoes are great, but if you're a serious runner I would consider the Kayano. I have used both and found that I get more (miles and performance) out of the Kayano than the 2140, but hey- you get what you pay for.
