Comments about Essential Gear EcoCharge LED Lantern and Phone Charger - '08 Overstock:
A great lantern for specific purposes like car camping or for emergencies here in earthquake country. 3 sources of power: charge from your car battery, 4 AA's or the easy to turn hand crank. Bright enough to read by and its diffraction lens provides fairly even lighting. There is some banding but if you align your book, it's fine to read. On the downside, it's fairly bulky and has only 1 light intensity setting. The base contains a small drawer, purpose unknown. It's too small to hold the charger cords. Also has an adapter to enable charging of 12V devices. I have one and plan to buy a few more for the cars and relatives.

Comments about Essential Gear EcoCharge LED Lantern and Phone Charger - '08 Overstock:
I got this lantern thinking it'd be good for charging my cell phone if I was on the road or when I felt like using physical energy for electricity rather than plugging it in. It works well for light use when I have to get up to go to the bathroom at night... but when I tried plugging in my phone it didn't charge. I'm not sure why it doesn't work, but it was frustrating. As a lantern it's fine, I'd recommend it for use as a lantern. It shouldn't really be advertised to charge other items though, if that's what you're looking for, don't buy this one. Oh and like the other person mentioned, the plugs should fit into the drawer, but they don't. I still don't know what it's for...?
