Comments about Marmot EcoPro +15 Sleeping Bag - Long:
I am glad to have bought this Marmot sleeping bag. Marmot's venerable designs like the adjustable hood and wave construction has kept me warm and toasty to 10 degrees Celsius.
The waterproof shell is also windproof. On more than one occasion during my long drive from CA to Yellowstone and back, i could sleep out in the open with this bag, ridgerest, tent footprint and an inflatable pillow. Its amazing how still and warm the air felt inside when just moments ago i was shivering out in the Nevada desert wind. Also, i could adjust the opening of the hood small enough for just my mouth and nose to be exposed. Since it was cold i used a Buff as a face mask. The bag and zippers is so windproof that when i expanded the air volume inside i could feel cold air rushing in from the adjustable opening of the hood.
If you are shorter than 6ft like me, get the Regular. Dont get the Long version like what i did because the added space means more air to heat up and areas where my feet didnt reached remained cold throughout the night. My solution for this problem was to pull the sleeping bag up till my feet touches then bottom and used the excess as a pseudo-lumbar support.
Twice in Yellowstone temperatures dipped below 0 Celsius and it felt really cold. Turns out there was a lot of condensation in my tent and the bag was slightly damp as well. It may be due to me breathing inside this bag instead of through the opening in the hood. As such, i would say that this bag is not as breathable as i would have liked it to be.
One major setback is the Ecopro does not compress well. Among all the 15 degree F bags the ecopro pack is the largest. It is also one of the heaviest of its range. The bag just barely fit my HS 65l Sentinel backpack's bottom compartment. Even then there was quite a bulge in the internal compartment.
I have occasionally rolled onto rocks accidentally while sleeping without damage.
On a side note, i experience dampness each time the bag touches the walls of my tent. The cold on the rainfly seems to cool the bag enough for water to condense on the insides.
Nevertheless, i am impressed with the design and performance of this sleeping bag. For the bargain price i got at REI outlet, i could not ask for more.
