I have bought a total of 4 of these REI workout shorts, with the internal liner. The 3 pairs I have I bought a while ago, and each have slowly lost the elasticity in the internal/underwear liner. I do wear them and wash them often, but this shouldn't break down the elastic this quickly. I have underwear that lasts longer and better.

Overall, I love these shorts, I love how there is a draw-string to pull tight along my waist (especially since I'm a curvy girl), the internal pocket is great for holding my keys, and the external zipper pocket is great for GU, inhaler, money, whatever small items I might need to bring on my run.

I highly recommend these shorts, and I will probably keep getting them as they come out with new colors and styles. I did just by a 4th pair this weekend.

Although, I will ask REI to work on improving the elastic of the liner for the shorts.
