    Comments about REI Lite-Core 1.5 Self-Inflating Pad - Short:

Fat guys aren't suppose to go backpacking I guess.
I have been through two of these pads. I thought that the first one was just a bad valve. But after the second one I guess there is a weight limit.
    6' 295 lbs. Ding!
I've tried to use this pad on weekends and longer trips and it didn't hold up.
It is very small and lightweight and I would recommend it to a weight weenie or a little guy.
Love the REI Gear. I will not give up on your gear.

      Comments about REI Lite-Core 1.5 Self-Inflating Pad - Short:

As compared to other national brands this pad is a real value-I like the fact that it comes with a stuff sack - (ridiculous to have to pay extra for one)!. Comfortable and compact, with an easy to grasp oversize valve - all in a package that is lighweight and durable. Just what I was looking for. I have used this pad dozens of times and would not backpack without it!

        Comments about REI Lite-Core 1.5 Self-Inflating Pad - Short:

This sleeping pad is light and comfortable for me (5'10" and 165 lbs). It is easy to store and inflate. I like the fact that there is a small pocket in the stuff sack to store the included repair kit. Extra gear or clothes can be placed under your legs for comfort and warmth while you are sleeping in your sleeping bag. This sleeping pad is a must for people who want light weight gear without sacrificing comfort.

        Comments about REI Lite-Core 1.5 Self-Inflating Pad - Short:

Its small size and weight are perfect for those looking to shed weight from your pack and add room at the same time. Some of the benefits:

-Inflating this won't leave you breathless at high altitudes.
-Comes with a patch repair kit in case of a puncture.
-Comes witha velcro strap to wrap around the pad once its rolled up...this eliminates the weight of the bag.
Overall a fantastic product, Mine has never had a puncture or any other problems. I look foward to many more years of realiability!

          Comments about REI Lite-Core 1.5 Self-Inflating Pad - Short:

This is a great pad. Lightweight, comfortable, and adds lots of warmth under you. I've tried many different foam pads and always felt the rocks, bumps, etc. and cold through the pad. This pad is warm and is like being on a mattress, no rocks here. The only down side is the valve is difficult to get closed without a lot of air escaping before getting it sealed. I'll never go without this pad again.

              Comments about REI Lite-Core 1.5 Self-Inflating Pad - Short:

I paired this pad with the Nooksak 35 degree REI bag. Torso length is all I need- just put some clothes under your feet in the bag. It's plenty comfortable, as good as any other self inflating pad, but SO lightweight. It folds up in half and rolls into a tiny cylinder. I used a fleece in its stuffsack for a pillow- just the right size. It fits, together with the bag and the "pillow", easily into the bottom compartment of my Gregory. I think the pad and bag together weigh maybe three pounds.

                Comments about REI Lite-Core 1.5 Self-Inflating Pad - Short:

I lost my old 1" Thermarest pad in a move a couple years ago. I bought this pad to replace it. Everything about it is better: lighter, thicker, inflates faster, and much more comfortable. I'm 6'-2", and it's plenty long for me. (I use my Crazy Creek chair for my feet.)

I highly recommended it for backpacking.

                  Comments about REI Lite-Core 1.5 Self-Inflating Pad - Short:

Like all "self-inflating" pads I've used, this one doesn't do much to inflate itself, but it is very easy to inflate to the right pressure by mouth. The valve is great because it only takes about a half turn to lock it in, so there's no holding the valve in your mouth while you try to maintain the pressure and screw the cap down. This is also handy if you need to let out just a little air for a cushier bed.

One downside for me was that the valve does seem to have a locking point, and if you don't turn it that extra bit (even though it feels good & tight), you'll wake up in the middle of the night on a flattened pad. But now that I've realized this, I haven't had a problem since.

                  Comments about REI Lite-Core 1.5 Self-Inflating Pad - Short:

I can only assume that I abused this somehow during storage. Some sort of mold grew on it while following recommended storing instructions (unrolled, valve open.) This pad developed 15-20+ micro-holes in it. I have spent 3 hours trying to find and patch all these holes, to no avail. It will stay inflated for me long enough to fall asleep, and then I wake up in the middle of the night on a flat pad.

I do not think my results are typical, but at my recommendation my friend bought this same pad, and had problems with his valve. He thinks it is a design flaw/production mistake. I think he jsut does not like the style of the valve.

But for the 50+ nights I spent on it without the many little holes, I enjoyed it.
