Adjusted to it's largest size, it fits about like a "Large" or 7-1/2 (and can be sized down easily). The youth size may fit smaller women (fits my wife perfectly).
This hat has proven to be invaluable for sun protection in hot and humid weather. It stays comfortable due to light weight and great breathability through the breezy mesh crown. Great for hiking, yard work, outdoor sports, at the pool or beach, etc.
It travels well since it can be packed flat without any problem. Very durable. Highly recommended.

The Bora Bora Booney Hat has proved itself to be very useful on both the golf course and around the yard. The hat does a great job of keeping the sun off my neck ears and face yet has very good ventilation to keep my head from overheating. The brim is stiff enough to hold it's shape while not interfereing with my golf swing. Overall , a great buy.

I bought one for my son and me. We both love them. It works great and is comfortable. With mesh on hat it lets heat escape which keeps head cooler (I get very hot and sweaty).

No complaints at all with this hat, but Columbia has apparently made a change in the styling. Both on Columbia's site, other retailers' sites, and on top of my head, this hat ships with a black mesh material along the band, not the same-colored mesh as shown above. It doesn't matter to me, but some may be bothered by the contrasting colors.
Otherwise, this is the warm weather sun hat you want. Adding to the given description, it's completely crushable & lightweight (86g). If you don't need the head strap, it's very thin and easily stows inside the hat while wearing (not sure if it'd bother a bald scalp). I don't see rain protection as an issue, because if you're wearing this hat for its intended environment, a little moisture penetration should be welcome.
The only improvement I can imagine (same-color mesh would be a little nicer looking) would be a self-stowing rain cover, but I'd rather Columbia kept it as than increase the cost and weight. Who really wants to hike while wearing a shower cap?

A great hat! It does what it advertises and does it well! My girlfriend bought it for herself, but then handed it down to me after she found a more "feminine" shade hat for herself. hehehe
It packs well and breathes well.
It's advertised as a shade hat, not a rain hat, so I don't know why other reviewers made negative comments regarding that.

What a great hat. The nice wide brim keeps the sun off you from mid morning to late afternoon. The lightweight construction and mesh sidewalls make it comfortable and most importantly COOL to wear. Even at blustery Farewell Gap it stayed snug on my head. The perfect warm-weather hat.

Hat works well in heat and sun. It doesn't have to be *hot* for the hat to work well, in my opinion. Yes, there is a wonderful ventilation system but when I am hiking or backpacking in any weather - I am always hot and need the venting. I have worn it working in the yard as well as several hiking excursions. I have had some cooler temps as well as heat. The hat has been in some light rain and also when I was cleaning my rain gutters. Hat was splattered with a dark mud but dried and wiped right off.
Also, this hat retains shape well when traveling (in pack or suitcase).
I hike a lot in the San Gabriels and the wind blows pretty hard on the south side (off shore breeze). I like the fact you can cinch the hat AND use the strap. My hat stays on and my head doesn't hurt.
Bought this hat in store at REI. I had my sights on some "cuter" hats but this one had the best features.

I've worn this hat for so many years! It's light weight and takes up almost no space when you fold it up in the bottom of a pack. It dries out pretty fast if you get it soaked, though it is a little droopy when it's super soggy.
I drive a convertible every day, and almost NEVER drive with the top up. The chin strap and elastic in the brim keep the hat in place comfortably and keep me in the shade, and it doesn't even mess my hair up too much. Standing around in the sun all day at race tracks, hiking, diving in Bermuda, kayaking everywhere from the San Juan islands to swamps in South Carolina, paddle boarding in Hawaii, to the top of Shasta (wadded up in my pack when I had to wear a helmet). This thing's been EVERYWHERE with me. After MANY years of noble service it finally succumbed to UV. I'm ordering a replacement right now. I love this hat.

Almost perfect for long hikes and camping.
The only thing lacking is better rain protection, although it's always a compromise between superior breathability versus superior rain protection. The mesh around the sides of this hat will allow both air and rain to enter the hat.
