Comments about Outdoor Research Salamander Gaiters:
My son and I each used a pair on a recent 30 mile/3-day hike on the Superior Hiking Trail in northeastern MN. Had rain, snow, lots of brush, muck, rocky slopes, etc. We both had the same problems. The placement of the velcro strip in the back makes them difficult to put on and off effectively; the velcro retainer strap at the bottom (also in the back) is poorly placed and snagged open continually, causing the velcro to get clogged with debris. Another problem is the pin in the strap buckle easily bent and had to be straightened. I would not recommend using these if hiking in muddy and dirty, i.e., most woodland conditions. on the plus side, they are waterproof and light.
