Comments about Suunto T4C Heart Rate Monitor - Men's:
The Suunto T4C has more than exceeded my expectations over the last month that I've owned it. So much so that I am shocked that there is not a single review here and more literature on the web about this great product!I will try to keep this to the point. Why I got this heart rate monitor:A friend of mine recommended it to me. I wanted to improve my cardio and had problems with overtraining and inconsistency with my training. My training consists of calisthetics, running, some weights. What's bad:I open the box to use my new T4C for the first time, take it outside for some Kettlebell military presses and of course the KB hits the face of the watch. Well, the screen is made of plastic (horrible choice Suunto) and there is an enormous scratch 10 minutes after owning it. BE VERY CAREFUL. Now that I am careful, I've had no problems. Just move the face to the inside of my wrist during KB presses now. Also, not MAC compatible unless you can run windows on your MAC.On some reviews, I've read that the interface is hard to use, but it's a watch! All watches have that weird interface...What's good:I love the software of this heart rate monitor. The Training Effect is ingenious. Training Effect is a 1-5 scale of how effective your workout was on your heart. Basically it's like this:1 Minor2 Maintaining3 Improving4 Highly Improving5 OverreachingMore on Training Effect:[...]When implemented with the 'Coach' function of the watch, T4C is going to give you a 5-day workout plan with a 1-5 Training effect goal and a time duration that it should be done with as based on the American College of Sports. This is awesome! As you keep following the Coach plan, T4C grows with your skill level and pushes you harder. When you first try the watch you set your Activity Level, ranging from 1-10. I set mine for AC 5 which is about 3h 30min of training time per week. After the first week and a half the watch asked me to move up to AC level 6. This felt pretty nice! A week later, level 7! The number is one thing, but my physical performance was another. There's this 3-mile run near my house that I've been running since I was born seemingly, and at AC level 7 I felt like I was running it as fast as I was when I was a kid! While you are working out, a diagonal up or down arrow will indicate what you need to do to your intensity to meet your goal Training Effect, all this in real time.I took a 4 day vacation and when I returned to the T4C it asked me to go back to AC level 6, and I said yes. Now I am still loving this watch, and after a month I feel very connected to it. It's recommendations are definitely making a difference for me[...]Suunto makes several pods that can be used for convenience. One is the PC pod to transport logs to your PC. Also, GPS and foot pods for speed and distance. None of this I was interested in.
