Comments about Light & Motion Seca 400 LED Bike Light:
I've used this light for road cycling and like its beam pattern as it distributes most of the light as a "hot spot" in its center which means when I pass under street light that is weak enough to not illuminate a pothole but strong enough to wash out most of my beam, the hot spot allows me to see the pothole and go around/wheelie/bunnyhop it. Relevant given the jolt that pothole would send from my tire to my frame to my wrists.
Also nice are the universal mount which makes the lighthead easy to take from bike to bike and the small size of the battery. No need for multiple mounts or tediously vicing and adjusting as with the L&M ARC light.
The lighthead mount on my light, though, too easily allows side-to-side rotation of the lighthead and therefore the beam, even though its fastening screw is fully tightened. That results in my having to recenter the beam many times during my ride.
The light includes a "race" setting where you toggle between high and low which keeps things simple. This is the only setting I run the light in as toggling through four settings, including "flash", at night, is just too complicated when I'm dealing with differing road conditions or traffic pulling out or turning left in front of me. Just gimme high or low, period.
The battery size and weight are good but the battery's strap is affixed to the battery's body by a clip, not a notch, for the strap to pass through which doesn't seem as secure as it could be.
The shortcomings are perhaps worth it, though, given the beam the Seca offers.
