    My 5 year old loves these snowshoes!! I was worried he would have difficulty walking in them, but he absolutely goes like mad in them. I did add some large, coarse thread, 5/16" Hex head machine screws into the five holes on the bottom of each shoe to give them a little extra bite in icy conditions, but still keep them from having sharp crampons that a 5 year old doesn't need.
    I got these during the winter clearance so they were a very good deal, and I am very pleased with my purchase. I definately recomend these, especially because the modification of them to add traction is very easy.

    We bought the smaller snowshoes and the grizzly for our families youngest hikers (5 and 7 year olds). The grizzly is just not robust enough to keep the heavier (70lb) and faster child safe while snowshoeing. The older child is solidly in the range this shoe is supposed to serve. The small child in the smaller version did great. The perfect snowshoe for starting out. The same design just did not work for us with the larger child. There was lots of sliding with the older child on a relatively flat semi-packed trail.
