Comments about Garmin nuvi 255 Wide GPS:
I am new to the world of car gps. however after seeing others using them, my gf got me this one for my birthday.
I love it! You can find addresses, intersections, and points of interest. It seems to pick up satellites rather quickly. The mount it comes with is OK, however I will probably get the bean bag mount for security reasons.
In just a couple of weeks, this has become indispensable for me....taking it on a 1200 mile road trip tomorrow!

Comments about Garmin nuvi 255 Wide GPS:
it took me a while to finally convince myself that this was something i needed. now that i've used it for a few months, i can't believe i didn't get one sooner.
eventually, you're going to be in a situation where you desperately need directions and the advice you get from the cashier at that crazy in the middle of nowhere gas station (who's probably missing a tooth or two) usually doesn't help.
that's when this thing comes in handy.
i'm a photographer for a newspaper and sometimes i don't get the best directions for an assignment, sometimes not even an address. this thing has saved the day so many times it's not even funny.
first major test was letting it do the navigation to an address i had programmed in louisville. i must admit, it was kind of scary not even opening an atlas and just listening to this little screen on my dashboard. but sure enough, we arrived at the hotel at the exact time it said we would.
i've also used it in chicago - much bigger city. for about a 30 second period while we were surrounded on all sides by sky scrapers, it navigated a little bit slower than usual, but it definitely wasn't a problem.
i also use it in the shawnee national forest in southern illinois all the time and little tiny dirt/gravel roads that aren't in my gazetteer are on the gps.
another cool thing, if you're driving around and you want to stop for mexican food, you tell it to look for mexican food and it tells you the closest place.
this thing rocks.
