Comments about REI Dual Alarm Clock:
I bought this to wake up for a shotgun start at 2 AM on Mt. Shasta. This clock is not very easy to set but once you figure it out you will like it. There is a little button under the battery compartment cover to swith to the alarm screen. Once set cycle back to the time screen and put the battery cover back on. Move the alarm switch on the side to on and it is set. The instructions do not mention any of this. I tested out a bunch of portable alarms and this one is the loudest. There is no way I can sleep through this thing. This is the one to go with if you absolutely must wake up on time.

Comments about REI Dual Alarm Clock:
This clock was a huge disapointment. The alarm is impossible to set, my husband and I spent an hour trying to set it. So basically it is a clock. The modes will kind of change if you pop off the battery cover and push a button there. However we were never able to set it. I will definately return it.

Comments about REI Dual Alarm Clock:
This appears to be a sturdy digital alarm clock with a loud alarm, snooze funciton, and lighted display.
Learning to use this clock is very frustrating, because the instructions are both inaccurate and incomplete, and the settings are not intuitive. The time function works per instructions. The alarm switch only silences the alarm and the Monitor button. Pressing the Monitor button once in the Time mode takes you to the Alarm function. In alarm mode, pressing the Up button toggles the alarm on and off. To set alarm, press Set, and set the alarm time in a similar way to setting time. The numbers 1 to 8 at the bottom select the following the alarm tones: (1) Unrecognized tune; (2) Red River Valley; (3) Brahm's Lullaby; (4) Happy Birthday; (5) London Bridge; (6) Unrecognized tune; (7) Beeping alarm, from gradual to rapid; (8) Short rapid beep. Turning off the alarm switch only silences the alarm. To cancel the alarm you must go to Alarm mode and press the Up button. In Alarm mode, pressing the Monitor button again takes you to the totally undocumented timer function. Acutally, there are 2 timers. The first timer mode is an "upcount," or duration timer." Pressing Up or Down starts and stops the timer. Pressing Set resets the timer to zero. Pressing Monitor again takes you to the "downcount," or time-remaining timer such as is used to time an egg. In this mode, by pressing Set you can set the hours and minutes of the timer to the deisred interval. Pressing Up or Down starts and stops this timer. If the Alarm switch is on, when the countdown is reached the alarm will sound. If the Alarm switch is off, only the dial will light up. Pressing Mode again takes you to what may be a Birthday mode which I have yet to explore, denoted by a candle to the right of the time. Pressing Monitor again takes you back to the time display. While the clock is in time display mode, pressing the Up button toggles between 12 and 24-hour display, and pressing the Down button toggles between Celsius and Farenheit temperature display.
I don't get the plug that it is like having 2 alarm clocks, unless they are referring to the loudness, or to the tone selections. If the latter, then you could say you had 8 clocks. (Ha). Hope this is helpful.

Comments about REI Dual Alarm Clock:
I love REI, specially the service. But it is disappointing that obviously no one (including purchasing agent, QA - if there is any, and store manager) reviewed the quality and the complexity of setting the alarm clock. Anyone tried to follow the instruction manual would find out it is impossible to set the alarm as the key information is missing from it. And the design of the alarm is far from intuitive. It's impossible to figure out how to set the alarm. Additionally, it does not allow to set the date. thus, it appears you could only wake up today. Can anyone figure out what the numeric ranges from 1 to 8 in the left lower box is used for? To get around this problem, I am using the birthday setting. So, I am hearing my birthday song every time the alarm is activated. Even with this approach, the screen does not show if you set the alarm even you turn on the alarm switch on the side of the clock. I wonder if this alarm clock is a duplicate of OEM for other unreliable vendor. The alarm should be redesigned and the manual has to be rewritten before it can be recommended.

Comments about REI Dual Alarm Clock:
Setting the alarm is described by the first review. However, the instructions don't "omit" the proper setting procedure, they mis-guide you with bunk information.
By "2-alarm", they mean one alarm plus a semi-useless birthday alarm that is a 7-step process to set.
The alarm is loud and good if you wake up at the same time everyday. I don't see myself using for travel.

Comments about REI Dual Alarm Clock:
I had this alarm clock packed up to return, but decided to read the reviews. Thank you to maverick for describing how to set the alarm! It was no where in the instructions.
I'll now keep it, as it's fairly easy to set, but I have to wonder how many of these have been returned due to the omission where the button is to set the alarm.
A poor design, as I would rather not have to take off the cover for the batteries each time I need to change the alarm. Not a problem if you are using it at home and get up at the same time each day.
