Comments about Volkl Mantra Skis - Men's:
I demo-ed these for several days in Jackson Hole last week. They were great on the days that we spent most of our time in the deep stuff. Good float, and really nimble in the trees (much more nimble than the Gotamas). And they're certainly good enough for running a few groomers. But if it's really steep and hard pack (or a bit icy), these don't give enough grip. They were pretty stable at speed, but still not my ski of choice for a day of ripping groomers (see AC50). If you can own two pairs, get this one and your carver of choice.

Comments about Volkl Mantra Skis - Men's:
I have skied over 60 days on the last two incarnations of the Mantra. I totally agree with the previous review, but give it a higher overall score. It is true that this ski does not offer great hold on hardpack/ice, but those are not the conditions this ski is (primarily) intended for -- this is a freeride ski. If you are an East Coast skier, one who stays entirely on the groomers, park rat (no offense), or racer then this ski is not for you. If you are looking for a pure powder ski (why REI has it classed this way, I will never know), then there are better options out there, including the Volkl Gotama, Katana and Kuro. But, for everything but the deepest and iciest of days, this ski handles better than anything else out there.

Best All-Around ski for the west coast skier... My home mountain is Mammoth, but I'm in Utah once a month..... easy turning ski.... floats well... stable at speed and busts through crud.... need to stay on top of these skis in a balanced position and they almost turn for you... if not, you'll be thrown around, especially in the bumps... this is my 2nd pair and I think the wider new dimensions are a plus... formerly skied Pocket Rockets / Xscreams and Mantras are just more stable - stiffer Pocket Rockets (same easy turning ski that can go all around the mountain).. a must ski in your quiver and will be skied in 90% of ski conditions on the west coast

Comments about Volkl Mantra Skis - Men's:
I was a heli-guide during the 70's and 80's in Jackson Hole where I skied Rossi Haute Routes on the hill and in the heli. I have migrated through the fat ski cycle over the last 10-15 years and have found the ultimate ski in the Mantra. I still seek the steepest lines whether icy, crud or pow and this ski has never failed to perform. I can cruise at high speed on the pack with equally great results. I am a 6' 210 expert skier. I normally ski at Mt Hood Meadows and ski at either Jackson Hole, Crystal, Big Sky, Blackcomb, Squaw, etc depending upon the year. You have to pay attention when riding this ski, but if you do the rewards are really there. If they add Volkls "ELP" design to future versions that might be the only possible improvement I can think of. Huge thumbs up!

Comments about Volkl Mantra Skis - Men's:
It's no surprise that the Mantra is Volkl's #1 selling ski in the market. It really can take you through anything but super hard pack and ice. It has the stiffness and sidecut model of a GS ski, but is wide enough to sail you through blower snow. I'm 6'2" 180lbs and went with a 177cm so that it's quick in the glades. And it still has plenty of lift to keep me above the snow. Put a Baron/Duke binding on and it's PERFECT for touring (though a touch heavy). Pair it with a Katana for big lines and uber deep snow and you will need nothing else in your quiver. Love this ski.

great all-around ski, and be used as your "everyday ski" very stable and good in the crud. very carvable and good on the groomers, but not quick-turning.
