This is the second pair of Komperdell trekking poles that I bought and the first Southern Cross. The adjustments for the poles get stuck too easily after relatively infrequent use, and once they get stuck in the closed position, they cannot be opened. Do not buy Komperdell trekking poles - you will be disappointed

I've used these for several winters of extensive snowshoeing and for hiking in the summer in diverse conditions. They have held up and I have had no problems with their quality. They are useful for travel as they collapse into compact form. The twist-locks are not as solid as lever locks on any pole and these are no exception. You have to make sure they are twisted tight. I did find that the snow-baskets can come off if they are not twisted into the lock position. I have had poles with better grips but these are an excellent value and a durable item in my experience,
