Comments about Sierra Designs Microlight Jacket - Men's:
DO not buy! The produt IS NOT "water resistant" and is very cheaply made. The tag is a gross misrepresentation of the product. Even when brand new it left me high and WET on the John Muir Trail in just a very light rain. It should be sold as a Hypotherima training jacket. Very serious about this...a $1 rain poncho would have been better. Note: Sierra Designs does not honor their warranties! I found this out after mailing it back to them (was not near a REI at the time)....Thank God for REI

Comments about Sierra Designs Microlight Jacket - Men's:
the microlight jacket is simply that. small and light weight. not intended for torrential down pours, works very well in humid and light precip weather. comes with a stuff sack that makes it great for keeping with you all the time in case you need it. its not the most breathable jacket, but then again, it makes a GREAT wind breaker. i could highly recommend this as a great ultra light outer shell. wore it on a lake the other night in 30 degree weather over my fleece. it was crazy windy, but this thing kept me dry, and kept the wind off entirely. price tag is pretty good too.

Comments about Sierra Designs Microlight Jacket - Men's:
I bought this to use as a lightweight windbreak/rain jacket.
The first problem is the sizing. I'm typically a size small/medium and I bought an x-large. The jackets are too short and didn't reach the bottom of my fleece.
The second issue is durability. Within 10 minutes I had already broke off the pocket zipper on one side, by the end of the trip (after being very careful not to do the same thing..) I broke off the other pocket zipper. If you don't use one hand to hold the jacket and the other to unzip it the pressure just rips it off. My girlfriend has the same jacket and her front zipper would pop open from the slightest pressure, bending over with a pack on, sitting down, etc.
One plus is it's extremely light weight and compactable. It's also a great wind break. As you might expect it doesn't breath very well and can't take much more than a quick light shower.

Comments about Sierra Designs Microlight Jacket - Men's:
First off, this jacket is not to be used as your primary outdoors jacket. This is a great "light weight" jacket that you can roll into a small ball and stuff it in your bag and use it on short outdoor trips or casually. In 40-45 degree weather I wear this jacket with a long sleeve compression shirt underneath and I always stay warm and for the most part dry, Unless it is raining hard. If I do sweat inside the jacket, then I simply wash the jacket in the sink (If I am at work) with some warm soap and water and then dry the jacket off with some paper towels and it's dry! Simple! If you need a primary hiking, trail running, snowshoeing, adventure jacket, I would suggest spending a few couple hundred dollars extra and get a gortex or eVent fabric jacket.

Comments about Sierra Designs Microlight Jacket - Men's:
I used this jacket in mid October during a Scout trip in the Georgia section of the AT. With all kinds of weather coming at us, the jacket helped keep the wind off and worked well with fleece. The problem is it doesn't breathe at all. My fleece was soaked and I don't think it was because of the rain.

Comments about Sierra Designs Microlight Jacket - Men's:
First off, to those people that expected that this jacket would be wind/rain proof, please.... for [$] you will never even get close to that. Now,I have had this jacket for almost 1 year now and I take it with me trail running in rain storms, high winds and 30+ degree weather. Never had an issue with the jacket. Keeps me warm enough to continue enjoying the outdoors while running. This jacket has been abused and used and still holding strong. It would be hard to find another jacket for this price.

Comments about Sierra Designs Microlight Jacket - Men's:
Let's get this straight - this jacket is not intended to be your primary foul weather gear. If you take this thinking it will work when you are hiking in the Cascades, you will be sorely disappointed. That's not the purpose of this jacket. This jacket is indended to be a backup, something you can stash away and forget about until you are in an unexpected situation where the weather is a little cooler than you expected it to be, or you weren't expecting any rain. It's intended to be an emergency jacket, that's it. An exampe: I went to Barcelona in spring on business, took my wife with me. I was running late picking up my wife at our house to go to the airport, so she grabbed the luggage, didn't realize our black cat was sitting on my black windbreaker. So the only outerwear I had was my blue blazer. Then a senior coworker had to borrow my blazer, then traveled on without returning it, so I was left without any outerwear, in Barcelona weather where you didn't need a jacket during the day, but at night you needed a light outer layer. The Sierra Designs Microlight jacket is perfect to keep always stashed in your main luggage for that kind of scenario.

Comments about Sierra Designs Microlight Jacket - Men's:
Certainly not only a "wind shell" rather a polyurethane coated fabric (note not found in REI technical spec) not only doesn't breathe well it holds water - see picture on other review. Sleeve openings in jacket are sized for very small arms and very little layering without restriction. Netting is nice on the inside front, would be nicer all around given the fabric doesn't breathe.

Comments about Sierra Designs Microlight Jacket - Men's:
[...]. I've had it laying around for a few years now and finally decided to try it during a light rain storm. Sadly, my light jacket underneath was almost soaked after taking off the Sierra jacket after being in a light rain for only 45 mins. This is nothing but a very expensive windbreaker that's built cheaply and makes the company lots of money. They should be ashamed to charge what they do for this jacket. Not recommeded unless you're a glutton for punishment.

Comments about Sierra Designs Microlight Jacket - Men's:
I was hiking when a storm rolled in. It was really just a cold wind with no real rain. I wore it for about and hour until we finally reached camp. when I took it off my shirt was soaking wet. As I was hiking I was sweating and this jacket trapped all of that moisture in. I felt like I just took off a plastic bag. I bought this to help me stay comfortable but it ended up being more of a hinderence than a help. I called Sierra Designs to inquire about their "Lifetime Warranty" and found their customer service to be pathetic. I will be returning this item to REI and this will be the last product that I ever buy from Sierra Designs. The only reason that I scored it a one is because REI's system wouldn't let me give it a zero.
