Comments about Arc'Teryx Gamma AR Jacket - Men's:
I've tried softshells from several different companies (Mountain Hardware, Marmot, etc) and I liked many of them. However, none of them offer the perfect fit and freedom of movement that this Arc' Teryx does. I've found that this jacket is good for most weather conditions including cold temperatures down to 15 degrees F with a moderate base layer (such as Patagonia Capilene). I don't recommend it for very wet weather because it is not 100% waterproof and does not have a hood. Otherwise, it is at least as water resistant in light to moderate rain (or snow) as the comparable Mountain Hardware softshell, which claims to be waterproof but is really just water resistant. Wearing a backpack in wet weather will push water though the shoulders, but if the rain is light it will take quite awhile. This Arc' Teryx also does an impressive job of blocking 40mph hour winds. The YKK zippers are durable and reliable. In short, this is one of the best softshell jackets available in any price range.

Comments about Arc'Teryx Gamma AR Jacket - Men's:
Great jacket. I have had it's predecessor the Gamma SV for a number of years. It handles most weather- wind an rain. Only vertical rain on the Appalachian Trail was able to get through. I got the Ar after I spilled varnish on the Sv and it discolored and hardened that jacket. I would not buy anything else. do yourself a favor and buy it one size up. the AR and My theta Ar are large for extra mid layers.

Comments about Arc'Teryx Gamma AR Jacket - Men's:
This is a great jacket, very versatile. I hiked the grand canyon in March in this jacket. In the morning, it was windy (20-30mph) and cold (30F). The jacket plus an extra T-shirt served me just fine. As it warmed up and we got into the canyon, the extra T-shirt came off. The jacket was comfortable and breathable until about 70F, when it became too warm (still breathable). On the way back up, it started snowing and was windy, and again the jacket managed just fine.
It's probably the only jacket you need all year in the Bay Area. Warm, wind and water resistant. It's expensive but worth it on sale.
The only nitpick I have are the pockets. They're sometimes useful, but it's awkward to warm up your hands in the cold.

Comments about Arc'Teryx Gamma AR Jacket - Men's:
I've had mine for some time now, I wore it everyday, and only shows minimal signs of wear due to washing, and every day use. Still repels water really well, and replaced with a new Arc'Teryx soft shell. Can be used for skiing in moderately wet conditions, many ski days I would pick this over my Theta AR shell.

Comments about Arc'Teryx Gamma AR Jacket - Men's:
Excellent shell. Fit is cut snug through the chest so be sure to check with your base layers and extra insulation if you'll be wearing them.
Doesn't have a lot of pockets, just two big ones in front and a tiny one inside at the chest, but that's my only complaint and it's a very minor one.

Comments about Arc'Teryx Gamma AR Jacket - Men's:
I found this on sale at REI and it seemed like a great deal, but turned out better than I thought. It is extremely versatile, warm, and not bulky. The fit is trim enough but also can handle layering up over a sweater no problem.
I even pulled it out on a cold cycling day when my cycling jacket was just not enough - I was worried that I would overheat in it after a few miles, but not at all - very breathable and comfortable and killed the chilling wind. It may become my de facto winter cycling jacket - or my every activity winter jacket.
