Comments about Mountain Hardwear Mesa Convertible Pants - Men's 30'' Inseam:
I have gone through several different brands of convertible pants before finding the perfect pair in these Mountain Hardwear Mesa pants. I have owned a North Face, Columbia, and REI Sahara convertible pant, but this one takes the cake by far.
The biggest reason? Durability. Inevitably, with the other brands, I have seen seams start to come undone with as little as one wear (TNF). During my latest trip to the Grand Canyon, after my Columbia pants started to blow a seam, I switched to the Mesa pant and never looked back. It withstood sliding down plenty of rock face with no visible wear.
Another thing the Mesa pant does well is dry quickly. I actually went for a swim in them after converting them to shorts, and it took maybe 20 minutes for them to dry completely, even though I never took them off and simply continued hiking. One feature you'll quickly appreciate is the ankle cinch cord. Not only does it help keep rocks out of your boots, but when you cross a river, you don't need to remove the pant legs. Instead, just pull them over your knees and cinch the ankle cord to keep them dry as you cross.
One thing that could make these pants even better would be the addition of an ankle zipper to facilitate removing the pant legs. As it is right now, you pretty much have to remove your shoes/boots to convert them. I realize this is a minor issue relative to the big picture, but it wouldn't be a fair review without some valid criticism. Finally, I wish there were some zippers instead of all the velcro it uses. Nothing has ever fallen out of my pockets when I've worn these pants, but I'd feel more at ease with a couple zippered pockets for important stuff.
Overall, I am extremely happy with these pants. Nevermind the higher price compared to TNF, Columbia, or REI brands. It's well worth it.

Comments about Mountain Hardwear Mesa Convertible Pants - Men's 30'' Inseam:
Mountain Hardware are without a doubt head and shoulders ahead of all the other companies in regards to their line of pants. Two pairs in particular, The Mesa convertible and the Matterhorn convertible, are imo the best 2 pairs of convertible pants on the market. If your primarily in warm weather then go with the Mesa line and if you venture into cold weather a lot then the Matterhorn is the better pick. I have tried almost every pair of convertible pants on the market and once I was turned on to mountain hardware by a buddy of mine, I have never looked back and have sold most of my other pants [...]. I still have a couple misc pairs in my closet by 95% of them are now either Matterhorn or Mesa. I just wish they would make more colors and bring back the Moonstone color. They are amazingly comfortable, wick away moisture very well and hold up very well to abuse. I actually used to be a blue jeans and T-Shirt kind of guy as you would find me in jeans at least 340 days out of the year however over the last 3-4 years I have slowly gone from Blue Jeans and T-shirts to Hiking Pants and T-shirts and Mountain Hardware Mesa convertibles are without a doubt one of my favorite pairs on the market. I pretty much live in them in the summer. I cant possible give these pants a higher recommendation. Mountain Hardware owns the hiking pants market.

Comments about Mountain Hardwear Mesa Convertible Pants - Men's 30'' Inseam:
Great zip offs for hiking and traveling when its hot. These pants are super soft on the skin and very cool to wear in hot weather. They are super easy to hand wash and hang dry quickly. I really preferred these to the REI convertible pants since these had a bit of stretch to them when hiking. The fit is nice and loose without being too baggy. Only complaint is the pockets are a little small. I'm not sure how well the velcro pockets will hold up but they definitely keep the pants lighter than snaps or buttons. Highly recommend these pants for traveling, hiking and camping.
