These boots do all these things very well...

These boots will provide everyday traction and paw protection from a wide range of temperatures, abrasive surfaces and unseen hazards, while also improving mobility in older dogs.

However, there is one major problem... the cuff opening is too small. If you measure your dog's foot to fit the actual shoe as suggested, then the dog's foot will not fit through the cuff of the boot making it impossible to put the shoe on in the first place. I need these boots for my dog since he scuffs when he walks on hard surfaces due to Wobblers Disease so I cut the cuff at the seam. This makes the opening large enough for his paw to fit through. This may be something Ruffwear needs to rethink when making these boots.

The Grip-Tex boots work well too but wear very quickly. That is why I decided to try the Skyliners.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I bought these to protect my English Springers feet from sheet grass, burs, etc. during the summer and to prevent ice and snow build up I the winter.
The first time trying to put them on can be tricky as the cuff is a tight fit over the feet, but if you cup your hand inside the cuff and spread it out, you can slip their feet in easily. You will also want to strap them on to the point that it looks like it is too tight as to prevent it from slipping around the foot or falling off. (This was tip was recommended to me from a dog-musher, and i have yet to lose a shoe!) With the strap pulled tight you may have exposed velcro that will pick up mud, grass, etc. It is difficult to keep clean, but will wash off easily under the sink.
Your dog may clomp around like a horse for a few minutes, but will get the hang of it quickly.
The only 'con' I've noticed is when my dog is running full speed, he no longer has the 'turn-on-a-dime' ability--he slips if it is very grassy or icy but that hasn't seemed to bother him. Other than that, he LOVES the boots. He knows he is going somewhere extra special and doesn't mind the few extra seconds it takes for me to protect his feet!
