Comments about REI Shuksan Pants with eVent Fabric - Men's 32'' Inseam:
dont get my headline wrong, this is a good maybe even great downhill ski pant, and let's face it 90% of the people buying this pant will be doing just that with it. but for the other 10%... the construction and matierial are good, the front pocket placement could be better, as it is, the front pockets sit right on the center of your thigh, no problem if you dont use the pockets, but if you do your limited on what you can put in them and still climb comfortably. the lower legs are built to loose (probly to accommadate a ski boot)again not to big of a problem if you are wearing gators, but the model picture is a little decieving in the leg cut. the lower leg will be to baggy to do any type horizontal movement with crampons. they are warm and water proof, ive used them in the tempature range well below zero. i also like the waist construction, the adjustable waist tabs alow you to get a snug fit and not need suspenders. but for mountianeering or back country work id use the Taku pant (which i also own) hope this helps :)

Comments about REI Shuksan Pants with eVent Fabric - Men's 32'' Inseam:
Live up to its price tag. Easily on bar or beat high-end Gore-tex stuffs
Well constructed, water-tight, windproof for alpine snow activities or long treks. More breathable than Taku (Element membrane) and brand name Gore-tex pants that I also owned.
Fits true to size. Starting from knees down, this pants add about 2-3 inches circular-wise to allow ski boots. Probably that's why a lot people call it oversized. It might get in the way if you climb mountains with crampons and axes, however it does not create a problem for me with snowshoes and long hiking poles.
Articulated knee section allows more freedom, however it starts a bit too high, almost in the middle of my thigh, it brings up a lot of wrinkles if I sit down or move around.
Full-length side zipper allows you to take on/off pants sideway, not absolutely needed, adds extra weight and possible leaks. However it simply looks cool and this has become the only way I put this pants on.
Built-in internal gaiters blocks snow, so I don't have to wear external gaiters.
The only con is pockets. All pockets are too rugged and feel stiff/thick when one sits down.
If they could completely remove the pockets, fine tune the articulation around knees, and make the width of lower leg adjustable, then it will be perfect.

Comments about REI Shuksan Pants with eVent Fabric - Men's 32'' Inseam:
Disclosure: I tried these pants at the store but ultimately did not purchase these Shuksan pants, so this review is only based on a dressing review test and a comparison with about 15 other similar shell pants I have examined in my search to replace my 10+ yr. old Gore-Tex shell pants.(I ultimately purchased the Taku Pants instead, due to their flexibility and the great reviews). The reviews of eVent Shuksan jacket rave about its superior breathability over Gore-Tex, so these pants may work really well for some folks. I'm excited about eVent's future potential in REI's other shells. I might have bought these pants but the material and design just didn't seem to provide much flexiblity, which I need for the active winter sports that I prefer (snow shoeing and backcountry telemark skiing). The rugged side zipper construction seemed too stiff and potentially uncomfortable (i.e. chafing) for active use. This may not be as much of a problem with downhill (alpine) resort skiing. I recommend people check out other reviews by people who purchase the pants and use them for active sports to see if there is a problem with the flexibility of the material or the stiff side zips.

Comments about REI Shuksan Pants with eVent Fabric - Men's 32'' Inseam:
I'm a woman and was looking for unlined ski pants at REI. I couldn't find any in the women's section but an REI salesperson suggested these from the men's section. They actually fit me ok. I LOVE the pockets. I used them for skiing this past week and they worked great.
