Comments about Marmot West Face Soft-Shell Jacket - Men's:
I really appreciate the abundant storage options, especially the handy cuff pocket that I use for my cell phone. One of the interior pockets is sized right for sunglasses and the other has a "port" to run a headphones cord out from my iPod.
The weight of the fabric is substantial with a nice texture and feel. However it doesn't pack down well which makes the jacket less attractive for backpacking because of it's bulkiness.
I am on the borderline of the Large and Extra Large sizes, but I opted for the XL to accommodate plenty of layering. The cut of the chest area seems unnecessarily big, but there's ample room to wear a down or fleece jacket underneath. The sleeve length is also generous, but for guaranteed coverage with mitts or gloves, I prefer it that way.
I wore the West Face Jacket to Obama's inauguration last week with a Marmot Zeus (down filled) Jacket underneath. After a 10 mile bike ride to the event, I was standing mostly still for six hours straight in 10-20 mph wind and temps in the twenties. I was very comfortable the whole time. No wind penetration and plenty of options to allow for ventilation when necessary.
Feels too big
