Comments about The North Face Aleut Down Jacket - Men's:
I wear a size 40-42 suit jacket and a medium Aleut fits me perfectly.
I searched high and low for a 1pc insulated jacket with pitzips. I found plenty of shells with zip-in soft shells or insulated layers but only the shell would have pitzips and the inner did not. And I've found a lot of so called insulated jackets with pitzips that had barely any insulation in them. I actually own one that is so thinly insulated that if its cold outside and jacket is pulled tightly against your body, you'll immediately feel the cold. Why do they bother? They should just call it a shell and recommend layering. Anyways, I don't like layering my jacket because it gets bulky and heavy. I wanted a simple, warm jacket that I could throw on when I go out and vent the underarms to control my temperature. And I've finally found it.
The material is durable not like some down jackets that I've owned, which I tore when they snagged somewhere. It's a little noisy when moving around but that's to be expected. Just about as noisy as a shell jacket. The inside material isn't as soft and plush as a low temp sleeping bag. But I guess it makes for a bit more durability.
The cuff hook and loop very small. If you have small wrists like me thats a blessing to keep the cold out.
The removable hood is insulated. And it has a small elastic bill to keep it cinched closer to your forehead and keep out the wind and snow. But it may hinder your 12 o'clock view a little. There's a pull cord on the rear to tighten the hood around your ears if its a little baggy. The collar is thick and when zipped up all the way, covers your neck fairly tight. Which is also a plus to keep the heat in.
There's a generous iPod pocket which fits my iPod Touch and the remaining headphone cable well.
The hand warmer pockets are just that. There's plenty of insulation to keep your hands toasty.
The powder skirt seems to work well and keeps the jacket around your hips when you move your arms up due to the rubberized surface. The waist of the jacket can be cinched down with the two pull cords on the sides. The best part is that the way they designed it, the excess cord points up and into the jacket instead of dangling on the sides and getting caught on something.
The goggle pocket on the inside right breast is mesh fabric so as to not hold the melting snow from your goggles. Not so great if you don't like wet shirts.
The left sleeve, along the forearm, has a zipped pocket that houses a unclippable goggle wipe. You can probably fit a small wallet in there.
The main zipper is two way and the top zipper has a big draw tab. There's also five hook and loop closures along the main zipper to keep the rain and snow out or just to temporarily close the front of the jacket without zipping it together. The hand warmer pockets, goggle wipe pocket and the pit zips have a decent sized draw cord. Out of all the pitzips I've tried, this one zips up and down the easiest without snagging or binding anywhere. Pitzips are the best thing since sliced bread. I get in and out of my car, office, home, store, etc and I love having the zips to regulate my temperature. I own four jackets with pitzips and I'll never buy another jacket without them.
Anyways, I sound infatuated by pitzips but actually I'm in love with this jacket. I forgot to mention the simple mono color and classic TNF logo on the front right breast and rear left shoulder blades, make for a very handsome jacket.

Comments about The North Face Aleut Down Jacket - Men's:
I searched far and wide for the best down jacket that I could wear in the city and on the mountain. I swear I tried on twenty different jackets. This one struck me as the best combination of unobtrusive style and ski-jacket functionality. And it's WARM.
For a jacket with this many tech features, it's really quite stylish, which is not always the case with TNF-style jackets. I've actually gotten compliments on it. It's not quite as loud as most tech jackets.
It does have a number of good features. The headphone ports actually inspired me to listen to more music, since I can just keep my headphones attached to the jacket even when I remove my iPhone. The double zipper and pitzips are well done and can be adjusted with gloves on. The hood is insulated and hella warm - I forgot my hat recently and was able to cinch the hood down and be comfortable. It appears to be big enough to be helmet-compatible as well.
The forearm pocket includes a detachable goggle-wipe, also known as an iPhone wipe. The right hand pocket has another detachable thingie that you can clip your gloves or keys to.
It seems to breathe quite well for a down jacket. I like the satin interior, which doesn't create static with sweater material. The powder skirt appears like it will work and even has pantalocks on it.
My only complaint would be the lack of access to the wallet pocket with the zipper closed. To access the pocket you have to unzip the jacket. This is a minor complaint, but it would be nice to have access to the pocket while the jacket is zipped.
In all, after searching for a long time for the right down jacket, every time I put it on I am confident that I made the right choice.

Comments about The North Face Aleut Down Jacket - Men's:
I never understood what the big deal was with a North Face Jacket. I was always a Columbia jacket person. My wife got me this jacket and I love it. It's lightweight and warm. I will buy North Face again.
