The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about Tool Logic SL 3 Fire Folding Knife:
The knife blade is very sharp and easily operated with one hand. The fire starter feature is a plus as a back up in remote country and works just like any magnesium fire starter. Once the coating is scraped off the fire starter, it will corrode around salt water. Re-coating it will help prevent that. The quality of the steel and handle is good and the watertight seal on the fire starter seems to have watertight integrity. This is a great knife to stick in a pocket or in a pack. It's durable and lightweight.
Service and delivery comments:
REI's service and delivery is always excellent.

Comments about Tool Logic SL 3 Fire Folding Knife:
This is a great product! Took this on a 4 day backpacking trip and this was used as my primary fire starter the entire trip. Lights very hot sparks all you need is good tinder and you're set. The blade is very sharp also. Came razor sharp and cut hairs off of my arm out of the box. It is made of plastic so it is lightweight, yet durable which is great for backpacking. The only thing I wish it had was for survival purposes I wish it was a straight edged blade instead of serrated to better use for carving, feathering, etc... I had to carry another knife with me (coldsteel) as a primary knife, but this acted well as a secondary + fire starter.

Comments about Tool Logic SL 3 Fire Folding Knife:
This is a great blade/firesteel combo, however, if you are really relying on a firesteel to save your life, you're better off using the " Light My Fire" model firesteel; they are stronger, the flint is thicker and you'll get more use.

Comments about Tool Logic SL 3 Fire Folding Knife:
I bought this knife for backwoods hunting and day hikes. The two deciding factors between life and death in a survival situation is the ability to make fire and the ability to shelter yourself from the elements. This tool enables you to do both. If you enjoy any sort of wilderness activities this is a must have. Razor sharp right out of the box. I wouldn't recommend it for heavy use but if I step foot in the woods I always have it in my pocket. It could save your life.

Comments about Tool Logic SL 3 Fire Folding Knife:
I've used to the product on many occasions, starting many fires. It's in fact, great as a fire starter, but as a knife, it's a different story.
After using it on only 3 short trips, the knife broke on me. The knife would no longer stay straight and would fold backwards. Not durable at all.

Comments about Tool Logic SL 3 Fire Folding Knife:
I lost my first one of these and was unwilling to go back into the woods without it. That's how much I depend on it. It is my primary fire-starting tool and kitchen knife (for smaller jobs) and primitive tool-making knife (make a spoon, fork, or stake). I carry a longer blade (9 inch) for bigger jobs as well, but use this knife most. I never go anywhere without it.

Comments about Tool Logic SL 3 Fire Folding Knife:
This knife works well as a firestarter, once you have the coating off the ferro rod. I easily started a fire on a damp and windy night on Mt. Tamalpais in a couple of minutes. It's lightweight, blade is sharp, reasonably comfortable handle, very positive lock. The blade wobbles a bit in the hinge, right out of the box, despite steel liners. Hopefully it won't get worse over time. I hate serrated knives generally, but the one place that they do make sense is when you need to cut cordage in a hurry--like a seat belt or a rope on a boat, so semi-serrated seems appropriate for this knife. One handed deploy is effortless and ambidextrous. The whistle is loud, but not the loudest I've heard. Good for letting bears know you're coming!
I think the knife averages lower in the reviews than it might due to Fortunato's comments. However, I'm not sure if Fortunato is a good source of information. The fire steel should NEVER dull your blade because you should hold the closed knife still and smoothly draw the fire steel against the jimping--little ridges--on the spine of the blade.
I'm buying one for the tool kit on the motorbike.

Comments about Tool Logic SL 3 Fire Folding Knife:
The knife is ok, but when it came to starting a fire it was horrible. Seattle in August is very dry, I had dried pine needles, paper strips, pieces of pinecones, and bone dry dead grass as tinder, and it took myself an a friend a good 15 minutes to start our fire. I really like the idea of a knife, whistle, and firestarter in one, but I would recommend a seperate longer magnesium rod for faster fire results, as striking the rod dulled my knife after the 200th strike.

Comments about Tool Logic SL 3 Fire Folding Knife:
All the back country uses of this knife are obvious, but let me make the case for it's EDC use. First, its very light, flat and can be carried numerous ways without discomfort. Now I want you to think about what is going on in Japan right now. Thousands of people trapped in ereas of devestation. Put yourself in that situation. This knife would be a very important tool to have. In a collapsed building, you have a whistle to help rescuers locate you. In a no power situation, you can start a fire to boil water cook, and stay warm. and of corse a decent utility blade that is one handed deployable, (important if you are injured.) I live in earthquake prone California, so I carry this tool nearly 24/7. I also carry a photon keychain light, bandana and pocket first aid kit. Be prepared!
