Bought these to replace a pair of Koolstop Salmons because they promised 'great wet performance.' In four weeks of riding they are already almosts half gone. The Koolstop's lasted almost a year by comparison. Would rather pay more to get something of quality that is going to last than have to keep replacing these...

I bought the red version of these because of the "HeatShield technology". I didn't have any problem with heat. They seemed fine in the rain as well. I guess that worked. They kept me safe. The problem was that they ate into my aluminum rims. There were pieces of aluminum from my rim that got embedded in these pads after a few hundred miles. The grinding sound was not pleasant. I would not recommend these if you have fancy wheels. The hardness of the pads does make them wear more slowly than softer pads. Maybe the black version is not so hard (different composition).

Also, these pads do fit any standard Shimano/SRAM type brake cartridge, not just Jagwire ones.

I use the black Kool Stop pads now and I am very pleased with the softness of those. Softer pads do wear faster, but new pads are a lot cheaper than a 1620g wheelset!

I'm rating this three stars because there are actually a lot of brake pads out there which grind up rims, and if you have steel rims they probably won't hurt your rims anyway. Maybe heat protection and rain performance are more important to some people than rim wear. Just consider what I write and make your own decision.
