Supersized fun for the whole family! This versatile and stable sit-on-top kayak is great for fun on the water and is easily maneuvered.

  • Designed to be paddled on flat water (bays, estuaries, lakes and ponds), moderate ocean swells or waves and slow-moving rivers
  • Durable linear polyethylene construction with molded-in graphics is lightweight and easy to care for
  • Designed with a keel for good tracking and ample rocker for easy turning
  • Made for two adults with ample room to take one small child along for the ride
  • Overlapping foot wells combined with a center seat allow two people to fit comfortably and let a solo user paddle more efficiently
  • Includes two adjustable, padded backrests for relief and comfort during long day outings
  • Multiple accessory eyelets for backrest, paddle leash and other attachments; bow and stern bungee deck rigging and center strap for lashing down gear
  • Optional hatch locations in center, bow and stern for additional gear storage inside kayak
  • Features scupper drain holes, threaded drain plug and bow, stern and side carry handles to keep kayak from taking on water and for easy transport

      Our family, ages 2 to 73 kayaked for the first time in the Malibu XL tandem. The kayak was stable, we all stayed dry and it performed just as the ads said. We loved this kayak and the fact that 2 adults could take out a little child and feel perfectly safe in Morro Bay waters. It added greatly to our vacation experience. Get one!

      What a boat. I own the Malibu Two and my buddy owns the Malibu Two XL. He puts himself, his 90lb dog and his five year old in it amid all of the weekend camping gear and paddles that thing by himself for miles. This boat is so stable, you can almost stand up in it. I've taken it out on the ocean in 4-foot swells and it was a dream. We paddle them in the river through very mild rapids with ease and take them out on the lake sun, rain or snow. With a couple of drybags, it doesn't get any better for a recreational boat.

        Just purchased a Malibu 2 xl from REI and am very satisfied with this boat.I am 6ft 2 inches,weigh 240lbs and was looking for a high volume boat that I could take my two dogs out on and occasionally use as a tandem.I also needed it to be light enough for me to carry by my self.61 lbs is light for a tandem with as much volume as this boat has. It feels like an honest 61 lbs to me and I can get it up over my head and carry it with no problem; it fact it feels just a tad heavier than my Ocean Kayak scambler xt. I glued some closed cell foam to the top of the oval hatch so I could rest it on my head when carrying it. This foam also helps when popping it up like you would with a canoe to get it up over your head. google Homer Stringer technique for lifting and carrying a canoe.
        Today I took it out with a friend who weighs 170 lbs and my dog that weighs 55 lbs and it was very stable with over 460 lbs in it.I sat in the back and my butt didn't get wet with the scuppers open. My friends butt got just a little wet. We were using the Ocean Kayak seats that came with the boat and have little thickness on the bottoms. Had my friend had a thicker seat, say at least an inch he would have stayed dry.The boat has plenty of volume. Ocean Kayak really did there homework to design such a do everything boat like the Malibu 2 xl. Also the boat tracks well even with an inexperienced paddler in the front. I am glad I bought the boat and would highly recommend this versatile sit-on-top. I used to have an Ocean Kayak malibu the 12 foot tandom model and the XL boat is light years ahead of that design; much roomier and not that much heavier to carry. I will be using it to fish most of the time. It is so stable I will be able to take my 120lb Rottweiler out when I go night fishing. After 30 years of kayaking and several boats,Wilderness System, Islander, Old Town, and Ocean Kayak; I can say with confidence, this boat is a definite keeper.

          I really enjoy this yak! I had a single before getting the Malibu Two XL. I squeezed my son in front of me before getting the Malibu Two XL. Now he has so much room, he often falls asleep as I paddle! We go out on Barnegat Bay for day trips and I outfitted it for fishing in the ocean. Ocean kayak has created a great platform to customize the kayak to suit your needs. The yak is also a great swimming platform. It is very stable and safe. It is a big yak so it is heavy, but the pros out weigh the con.

              The Ocean Kayak Malibu 2XL is a great SOT kayak for just about all aspects of paddling. The thing about this boat is that it has lots of volume making it a long, fat and somewhat heavy kayak. That also means that it can float a lot of weight and it still paddles, and tracks well on pretty much any body of water that you would want to explore. I use it on rivers mostly, class 1-2 and it's a dream.
              If you need to carry a good load of gear or paddle with two or even three paddlers than the Malibu 2XL is the kayak for you.
