Comments about Kelty Redwing Classic Pack - Special Buy:
After 3 weeks in Central America with this weekend-sized pack, I'm in love with it.
It's the most versatile small pack I've ever worn. You can cram a ton of stuff into the huge main compartment (note the capacity in the specs), or pack it only partly full then flatten it against your back with the well-positioned compression straps. So it works great both as a daypack, for weekend trips, or as an airline carry-on.
Can't vouch yet for durability, but after 3 rugged weeks in Central America it still looks like new. On this score, the ripstop nylon and large YKK zippers with steel sliders/pulls are reassuring.
Tall folks will find the long internal frame size fit a real relief. The stiff frame hugs my lumbar curve just right (I'm 6'1") While the load rides high and snug against my back, the comfy, wide waist strap shifts most of the weight to my hips. Yet it still fits easily into an airline overhead, even positioned perpendicular to the aisle.
4 side pockets (2 mesh, 2 nylon) work well for water bottles, wet bathing suits, bug spray, suncreen, etc. Unfortunately, none of these side pockets close 100% at the top, which makes me slightly nervous about things falling out if, say, the pack takes a severe tumble.
Other minor quibbles: Top of frame rides 1.5 inches higher than shoulder strap top, so when I slouch, it occasionally brushes the back of my head. But restoring good posture eliminates this minor annoyance (and your mother would approve!) Shoulder strap padding seems a bit thin, but so far this hasn't bothered me, perhaps because they fit so well and the sternum strap is positioned correctly (another pet peeve with cheaper packs). I might have appreciated another small pocket of two inside the main compartment, e.g. for securing valuables. But that's about it.
Altogether this high-quality, well-thought-out pack seems like a steal at this price. I'm tempted to buy another as a gift, before they are gone.

Comments about Kelty Redwing Classic Pack - Special Buy:
very good pack for travel and weekend trips. Note that if your height is more than 5'10'', you need to get the 'large' one. The regular one is kind of short in terms of the torso.
Service and delivery comments:
excellent!

Comments about Kelty Redwing Classic Pack - Special Buy:
This is one of the single best pieces of gear that I own. As a soldier and an avid outdoorsman I have travelled the world towing the bag with me. I bought the 3100 3 or 4 years ago and I have literally taken it everywhere. It has done so well that several other guys in my unit have purchased the same pack.
It has been my carry-on, go bag, weekend pack and day-to-day work bag. It is big enough to carry everything I need for a 3 day trip or I can use the compression straps to flatten it down to nothing.
If you are an ultra-light type, this is not your bag. But if you need a bag that will not fail you and is strong enough to endure all environments, this is it.
Side note: the webbing on the bottle holders began to tear about 2 years after I bought this pack. I called Kelty and they had me mail it in and within two weeks it was back at my house, repaired free of charge.

Comments about Kelty Redwing Classic Pack - Special Buy:
I bought this pack for my journey to Japan. I served as a hiking, biking, and climbing guide for a lodge. This became my best friend! We basically lived at the lodge, but yet had a house we slept in that was about a ten minute hike from the lodge, so it was great to pack up things to and from... Always enough room for extra layers and anything I would need that day at the lodge.
I also used this pack to travel around Tokyo/Kyoto for 10 days on a leisure, self trip. It was great! Plenty of room for my stuff (clothing, computer, gifts, extra shoes), but yet not completely overwhelming for all the train, subway, and bus travels required while in Tokyo/Kyoto. Very comfortable to run through stations and walk around the city. No problems, great padding and straps!
It was also a checked bag to and from the US, doesn't show any signs of wear and tear and it's had a rough 4 months already... I absolutely love this bag and look forward to many more excursions with it!

Used this to climb Mt. Hood twice and on several three day backpaking trips. Good pack for perfect weather because it's too small for anything extra like rain flys or large sleeping bags. Using a compression bag I did get my 30 degree Big Agnes sleeping bag in the bottom of it. The interior half pocket should have a zipper because EVERY time I opened it stuff fell out. I use the hydration pocket for flat items or my puffy coat. The side pockets do not zip entirely closed but the velco flap helps keep them in place. That could be improved. I did buy extra straps and tied on the Big Agnes pad, my tent poles and fishing pole to the top. Truely a minimalist's bag.

Comments about Kelty Redwing Classic Pack - Special Buy:
For backpacking, if you're experienced, you won't need a larger or better pack until a 4 or more day trip is planned. And for travel, well, I took a week trip to Rhode Island from Missouri and I still had packed stuff I didn't use.
It's tuff and the 3100 Cubic Inch bag is plenty big enough.
I highly recommend this unit for general travel and as a Bug Out Bag it's great.
