Comments about Pearl Izumi X-Alp Euduro Bike Shoes - Men's:
I’d like to preface my review by saying that this is the first pair of dedicated biking shoes I’ve ever used. Before I used the toe cages, now I’ve moved to clips.
I picked this pair out largely because of comfort and lack of laces. I’ve had my laces sucked into the drive train too many times. I tried on some other shoes but they really cramped my foot for the same size. These seem to be a bit wider with adequate room in the toe box.
As far as comfort goes these work very well. They don’t feel that different from a pair of regular shoes (other than being a little more stiff up front). You can walk in them for hours and not really notice the difference. If your going to be stuck walking out of a bad trail or hanging out at the after-ride party these will work well.
The traction on outdoor surfaces is also decent. At one point I ditched my bike and went exploring some woods. They were not hiking boots but they were just as good as normal shoes with aggressive tread.
As far as the fit goes make sure to get the right size. While they have two straps and tightener clip the straps don’t seem to help that much. I tried to use the straps to really get it tighter past the “default” setting but they don’t really tighten the fit all that much. The tightener binding clip does tighten things a bit up top and around the ankle. Fortunately the shoe fits tight enough.
Its high degree of comfort means that it’s not the stiffest highest performing shoe once you get on the bike. I tried on some much stiffer (and more expensive) shoes that I image return a bit more energy to your pedals. But for my uses (exercise and commuting) these are fine. I’m not looking to shave every gram and second off my ride. I’m still exploring the benefits and hazards of being clipped in and these work for me.
So in summary
Pros
No Laces
Comfortable
Good Walking Traction
Cons
Lacks on bike stiffness
Not as adjustable as I’d like.
Conclusion
It seems to be a good pair of shoes, they work and are decently priced (for bike shoes). A good buy unless your looking for something more specific.

Comments about Pearl Izumi X-Alp Euduro Bike Shoes - Men's:
These shoes are comfortable and easy to adjust, but I hardly had a chance to break them in before the buckle closure broke on my first crash. Overall quality is poor. The sole has A LOT of flex, so they don't provide much power. Stay away if you're going to give these much abuse.

Comments about Pearl Izumi X-Alp Euduro Bike Shoes - Men's:
Very comfortable shoe (I have wide feet)! Great traction for hike-a-bike sections. Pedaling performance is good. The ONLY concern for me is their durability. The ratchet on my right shoe pulled out of the threads. Pearl sent me a replacement part but I can't find anyone with the ability to do the actual repair (cobbler). After searching I found this has happened to at least 2 other people.Maybe I'm harder on my shoes than the average rider (technical trails with lots of rocks) but in 5 months I have a few tears in the fabric and the sole is also pulling away from the shoe in one spot. Yes, I've done a lot of riding and had a few nice crashes. But it's a MTB shoe, so it should be expected! I'm having a hard time recommending a product to a "friend" that I feel I may have to replace after one riding season. I guess I was hoping my[$] was a longer term investment.

Comments about Pearl Izumi X-Alp Euduro Bike Shoes - Men's:
I'm a cyclist that commutes, shops, exercises, and has fun (on and off the road) on my bike. I have a mountain bike with dual purposes, road bike, and off road.
I just took these shoes out and tested both uses. Oak Mountain State Park has a great mountain bike trail. These shoes had a work out, just like I did. Worked well on the not quite technical part, worked even better on the technical part. Great traction and comfort if the trail ahead is too dicey for you. The 2 straps, and the ratchet strap are great for customizing the fit. Also went on the Chief Ladiga Trail, paved trail from Anniston,AL to Atlanta, GA. 70 mile round trip with no sores, cramps, or any other discomfort. I didn't do the whole trail, it's 97 miles to Atlanta. Adjust your clips looser on a technical trail, tighter for the road. Used low ride socks and had NO problem with rubbing or abrasion, socks were still dry after both rides.
Only con I can think of is that the cleat mount cover can't be used when the cleats are on. Wouldn't even bother with taking another set of shoes, other than these would look odd with a pair of slacks.
