Comments about Kelty Light Year XP +20 Sleeping Bag - Women's Regular:
I've taken my bag on two camping trips now. The first, the weather was fairly cold (20-30 degrees F and damp) at night. With a silk liner, but wearing just a base layer, the bag was warm and toasty. I probably could have skipped the liner. On the second, the tent leaked horribly and the bag got wet. It stayed warm despite that, and once we fixed the leaks, my body heat even dried the bag quickly while still keeping me warm - very nice!
Features:
The bag is silky soft, doesn't hold condensation, and is warm even when damp. The bag is roomy enough to be able to do some wardrobe changes in the middle of the night (taking on/off a layer) or to tuck up a leg, but snug enough to keep you warm. There's a baffle-thing around the neck that keeps cold air from going down your body, and the side zipper is covered with a baffle as well (and it's a nice-looking silver celtic knot design to boot). It's quite cushy - unless the ground was really cold, I often didn't notice when I rolled off my ThermaRest. My nose was cold, so I did wear a bandanna over my face, but that's not the bag's fault! The vented foot zipper is nice so you can vent if your feet get hot. The side zipper opens from either end, so you can vent a little along the side too. The bag is lightweight and stuffs into a gallon-of-milk sized stuffsack (and also comes with a big cotton sack for storage). So, it's not the smallest out there, but it's a nice compromise between small and cushy enough to keep you warm and comfortable.
Missing features:
There are no pockets for storing your watch, earrings, or other little do-dads that some bags have, which I missed. The zippers also aren't glow-in-the-dark which was a nice feature on my last bag. You can buy those separately from REI, though. Also, no pillow pouch, but I never really used that feature anyway. Like most mummy bags, it doesn't unzip flat, so you can't use it as a blanket like you can with rectangle bags. One feature I saw in another bag (NOT in this one), is a short zipper on the other side, so you can stick your arms out while fully in your bag to read, play cards, etc. Maybe my next bag will have such luxuries :)
