This incredibly light Mountain Hardwear Phantom bag maximizes warmth and minimizes weight and bulk—ideal for alpinists and backpackers.

  • Performance mummy cut brings the down insulation closer to the body without being uncomfortably restrictive
  • Provides extra room at the elbows and hips, while reducing volume around the head and from hips to knees
  • Three-quarter-length zipper enhances weight savings
  • Insulated with superior European 800-fill-power goose down, blended and lab-certified in the United States
  • Super-light, high-tenacity nylon shell features a highly water-resistant acrylic finish
  • Box baffle construction creates maximum loft with minimum weight; 5-in. baffle width keeps down from shifting and prevents cold spots
  • Warmth is optimized through differential cut of shell and lining fabrics, allowing the goose down adequate room to expand to its full loft
  • Insulated draft tube isn't sewn through and extends to bottom of bag to eliminate cold spots
  • Multi-baffle, tailored hood brings the sides of the hood in close to the neck and face, reducing the need to cinch the hood tight to keep warm
  • Ergonomic collar drapes comfortably over neck and shoulders, sealing out drafts; no need to cinch it unless it's close to bag's temperature limits
  • When it's cold enough to cinch down hood, face gasket makes hood closure more comfortable and effective
  • Multibaffle Comfort Foot Box is shaped to allow feet to rest naturally; shape preserves loft and allows down to drape closer to feet for more warmth
  • Two-way locking zipper sliders stay in place when bag is partially unzipped for ventilation; snag-guards keep fabric from catching in zipper
  • Insulated zipper gusset seals in heat at base of zipper
  • Comes with stuff sack and mesh storage bag

Comments about Mountain Hardwear Phantom +0 Sleeping Bag - Regular:

2 lb 10 oz for a 0° bag is certainly sweet; thank the 800-fill-power down. For the same reason, the bag packs even smaller than claimed in the specs – it took some cramming, but I got it into a 7 x 14 stuff sack from another, smaller bag.Note that the zipper is less than full-length. (I got my version of this bag in Dec. 2004; I would generously describe the zipper on that one as half-length, so don't know about the 3/4-length zipper on this one.) Yes, this leads to an overall reduction in weight to some extent. It also makes it much harder to effect temperature control at lower elevations or warmer temperatures. Most dramatically, while I got this mostly for low-elevation winter camping in AK, I also took this on a ten-night Kilimanjaro climb. On the middle nights, temps were cold, and the bag worked great. On nights one and ten, however, we were back down to 7,000' or so, with night-time temperatures closer to 40 or 50 above, and I was clearly sweltering. Had to sleep half in, half out of the bag, where with a full-length zipper you could just unzip it all the way, and still feel like you were in a sleeping bag.Overall, a fine bag. Used it for 30-40 nights in the past four winters; no real durability issues noticed. Down seems to have stayed in place reasonably well. Collar and elastic all still working well.Large mesh storage bag, included, is a nice touch.Four stars rather than five just because I'm stingy with the "perfect" label; this really is a fine bag.
