Comments about Scarpa Tornado Pro Free Ride Randonee Boots - Men's:
I've skied the Garmont G-rides and hated them because they didn't ski well and could turn a big ski. I hated them enough to tour in my Technica race boots. Then I found this boot. I've skied this for about a year. I've skied steeps, chest deep powder, crude, groomers, and bumps with this boot and been very happy. I no longer use my race boots.
Cons: Not a great touring boot but it works fine. It's more comfortable than the G-rides but heavier. It also doesn't have a rocker sole but I'd rather pack a pair of running shoes for approaches than ski a soft boot on descents. My one real complaint is the two forward lean settings. They are a difficult to get into the correct lean setting. I wish they made this boot in a single most forward setting.
This is by far the best front country boot (better than all the Garmont or Crispi boots). It has a much better flex pattern than the Garmont's.

Comments about Scarpa Tornado Pro Free Ride Randonee Boots - Men's:
These are absolutely the best choice for skiing the frontside with some marginal out of bounds skinning for the last vestiges of powder. I ski 35-45 days per year with more and more off piste. I went into these from a Technica Icon and absolutely love them. Super customizable bladder and shell. Put in your own beds. They need to be set to the forward lean setting, and have your boot fitter set the canting angles. They are not as stiff as the Icon, but don't need to be unless you are pounding gates. Don't think that they won't be stiff enough. They have 2 tongues. One for the stiffer feel thay you will want on the front, and an articulating tongue if you use these for touring. This is a great boot for someone who works on the mountain or who spends days and days in their ski boots. If you want them for more touring, they may not be the best. If you want them for mostly frontside and some back country or some out of bounds... there is not a better alternative....
